The new year is coming, and so is the custom to organize a small retrospective of the old year. In the case of counting sports activities, I have been using Strava for years as a measure of my physical activity. For years, Strava Year In Sport has been the main indicator of how many and what kind of activities there were during the previous 365 days.
So without further ado, here it is, Year 2024 in Strava retrospective:
Although it may seem to some that my year was quite ok, because Strava ranks me in the top 5% of its users, and Strava users are almost all physically active enthusiasts around the planet, I am not satisfied.
The mileage this year is 30% less than the previous year, 2023. The number of active hours decreased by as much as 36% and the number of active days by 22%. A catastrophically bad trend!
Yes, the year was very busy. I had a lot of business challenges. My parents were struggling with their health, so I spent a lot of time dedicated to them. Also, I even had several periods without any activities due to my own health problems caused by severe eye injuries and respiratory tract infections. And yes, I'm almost 55, so I'm not physically able to accomplish much anymore. But...
But, above all, I have in mind that the year 2023 was less active due to family obligations at that time, so a result worse than that year is absolutely unacceptable. I already said: a total disaster!
The end of the year brings again a million obligations on the business plan because everyone wants the fictitious closure of projects. Yes, screw SCRUM and whoever came up with it, it's the biggest computer science scam ever! The day is short, so there is no time for trips to the mountains, and the snow does not allow serious cycling...
However, motivated by bad statistics, I joined a challenge that involves cycling 300 kilometers in the next few days until the New Year. I know, 50 kilometers a day doesn't sound like much. However, my average is closer to 20-25 kilometers per ride, per day. HIIT workouts even less than that - somewhere between 10 and 20 kilometers. Also, my current cruising speed is about 30 kilometers per hour, so 50 kilometers a day requires a little less than two hours of time that I don't really have. So this will be a serious logistical and physical challenge.
Anyway, fingers crossed, let's move on!!
