This was the first time I went to gym two days in a row, yesterday and today. No, I'm not getting addicted to powerlifting. I just wanted to try a push/pull split.
So I did only exercises with pushing movements yesterday (squat, bench press, dips etc.), and only exercises with pulling movements today (deadlift, rows, lat pulldown etc.) This worked out well. It was mentally relaxing to focus on one type of training, and I recovered quickly so far.
I also cycled a bit more than the 25 minutes it takes between my home and the gym. Another first time: never seen a traffic sign declaring a street closure for a movie shoot two weeks in advance. I guess this will only attract more attention. What are they going to shoot on this backstreet at night? I bet it'll be about a drug deal gone wrong.
I don't want to complain about maintenance, but the city of Utrecht is closing off streets on at least three points along my route to the gym. Cyclists can usually squeeze through, except for this small drawbridge across a former industrial harbor. The larger bridge in the background is the same as above.
At another spot, an isolated neighborhood of outdated apartment buildings is being torn down. This will make it possible to reroute traffic around the new buildings and replace the road you're seeing here by a park.
Further to the south, they're building the Merwede residential district, which will be the largest car-free neighborhood in the Netherlands, with 6000 homes. Later I heard that today was the official starting date of the building phase. I used to have an office there when it was a commercial district, and I also delivered mail there for two months.
Today I was happy to see the remains of the so-called "Smart Business Park". As the name indicates, this had a stupid, confusing address scheme for the various buildings in the compound, most of which had multiple tenants each. Good riddance!
