I went to TOHO Cinemas in Yurakucho to watch a movie.
Today is Wednesday, which means it's "TOHO Wednesday," a discount day when adult tickets that usually cost 2,000 yen are available for 1,300 yen. In the past, many movie theaters designated Wednesday as "Ladies' Day," offering discounts exclusively for women. However, recently, "Ladies' Day" has been disappearing, reflecting the trend toward a genderless and more equal society. Instead, more theaters are introducing "Service Days," where anyone can receive a discount regardless of gender.
TOHO Cinemas is currently holding a revival screening of Les Misérables (2012). I really wanted my elder son to watch this movie (and I also wanted to take advantage of the discounted price), so I decided to let him skip school and take him to see it. Since he has only missed school a handful of times in the past six years, I figured it would be fine just this once!
Yurakucho is one of my favorite areas in Tokyo. It is lined with towering buildings and shopping complexes, giving off a very "Tokyo-like" atmosphere. However, unlike Shinjuku or Shibuya, it is not overwhelmingly crowded, making it a pleasant place to walk around. We arrived at Hibiya Station a little before 11 AM and had lunch before the movie. The picture shows the shirasu (baby sardine) peperoncino pasta that my elder son had.
The weather was much warmer today compared to previous days, making it a perfect day for a walk. The past few days had been cold and windy, so I was excited to feel the first signs of spring as we walked to the theater. It was warm enough that I started to sweat a little while wearing my jacket.
The screening of Les Misérables at TOHO Cinemas was held in Theater 13. Theaters 1 to 11 are located inside Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, but Theaters 12 and 13 are in a separate location—so be careful! These two screens are actually in the basement of the Takarazuka Building.
Before the movie, we bought caramel popcorn and hot coffee from the concession stand. Theater 13 is a relatively small venue with fewer seats, but to my surprise, the audience turnout was quite high, and it was nearly a full house. I didn't expect so many people to gather for a revival screening!
I had seen the movie before, but watching it on the big screen with theater-quality sound made a huge difference. Especially since Les Misérables is a musical, the immersive experience was even more impactful.
I plan to write a separate post about my thoughts on the movie itself. After walking around the subway station and the Yurakucho area, I ended up taking over 9,000 steps today!

有楽町のTOHOシネマズに映画を観に行ってきました。
今日は水曜日、鑑賞料金が安くなる「TOHOウェンズデー」で、大人は通常2,000円のところ1,300円で観られます。以前は多くの映画館が水曜日を「レディースデー」と設定し、女性を対象に鑑賞料金を割り引いていましたが、最近は「レディースデー」は廃止される傾向にあります。ジェンダーレス社会、男女平等の流れですね。。「サービスデー」として性別に関係なく割引を受けられるところが増えています。
TOHOシネマズでは現在、『レ・ミゼラブル』（2012年）がリバイバル上映中です。この映画、ぜひ長男に見せたかったので（そして私は安い料金で観たかったので）、学校を休ませて連れて行くことにしました。6年間、数えるほどしか欠席していないので、たまには良いでしょう！
有楽町は私のお気に入りの街の一つです。巨大ビルや商業施設が立ち並び、いかにも「東京！」という感じがする一方で、新宿や渋谷ほど混雑しておらず、落ち着いて歩けるのがよいところ。11時少し前に地下鉄日比谷駅に到着し、映画の前に昼食をとりました。写真は長男が食べたしらすのペペロンチーノです。
今日は昨日までとは打って変わって暖かい日で、ウォーキング日和でした。ここ数日、風が強く寒い日が続いていたので、春の気配にウキウキしながら映画館までの道を歩きました。上着を着ていると軽く汗をかくほどの陽気でした。
TOHOシネマズの『レ・ミゼラブル』の上映は13シアターです。1～11シアターは東京ミッドタウン日比谷にあるのですが、12・13スクリーンだけ離れているので要注意！この2つのシアターは宝塚ビルの地下にあります。
映画を観る前に、売店でキャラメルポップコーンとホットコーヒーを購入。13シアターは座席数少なめの小さなシアターでしたが、意外にも観客が多く、ほぼ満席の状態でした。リバイバル上映にもかかわらず、これだけの人が集まるとは…。
映画自体は以前に一度観たことがあるものです。でも、やはり映画館の大スクリーンと音響で観ると迫力が違いました。特に、『レ・ミゼラブル』はミュージカル映画ですしね。
映画の感想については、また別の記事で書こうと思います。地下鉄構内や有楽町の街をたくさん歩き、今日の歩数は9,000歩を超えました！
