Yesterday started as a normal friday. You know the drill; a walk to work and a walk near the lake after lunch then some more walking to go home. What changed was that on my way home, crossing Tunis Downtow, I luckily found a street party hosted by the Carthage Film Festival that has been going on this week.
Curiosity led me there but the magical voice of Jamila kept me mesmerised amongst the crowd.
The band was named "Jamila and the other heroes" ( Jamila in arabic mean Beautiful, so the name of the band might be a reference to Beauty and the beast... maybe)
Jamila is a Palestinias singer and musician and she displayed the Palestinian scarf on stage, which made the crowd love even more.
The band is from germany and has members from Palestine, Syria, Canada and Germany ( if I'm not mistaken) and they don't just sing for the fun of it or for the money, they also have a message to convey; Jamila talked about Palestine, about women rights and child rights, and about freedom of speach and freedom of travel both in the lirics of the songs and while introducing the songs in between them.
They announced that they will sing again on saturday in the closing ceremony of the festival, so I'll try to be there, intentionally this time and not by chance.
After the party they distributed some stickers and Jamila allowed us to chat with her and take selfies. Which was so nice of her. They also interact with people when they tag them in stories.
