frame hunting : December 19 2024

in Actifit2 days ago

this nightwalker will share a pretty short entry this time, let me say that first.
the night was long, but it's just that my mind was elsewhere and failures after failures entered my head even during the nightwalk that it was pretty hard to enjoy the view.
there was one goal for tonight, hunt for frames.
it was for #POBPhotoContest actually and the theme for this week was frames, a style of photography where the subject was given more attention by surrounding it in frames.
now the frame can be anything like doors and windows, but it could also be something natural like branches or leaves with the subject captured in the center.

the university of tokyo (東京大学)

with this in mind, i gathered my thoughts in search for frames.
i even branched off to this new area just to find frames but oh my, it was just not happening.

the gingko tree beside the street was lovely, and the branches could possibly be frames but there was just nothing to frame.
there was nothing of interest which caught my eye on the other side of the street that we could possibly frame.

1000031041.jpg

and did i mention that i was walking outside "the university of tokyo", it was a very wide university and the structures seem to be a mixture of old and new.
this gate could be a frame but it was close, the frame could not even become a frame.

1000031043.jpg

same thing here, this gate was also closed, akamon.
and this is what i meant when i said that the university is a mixture of new and old, akamon (aka meaning red; mon for gate), is one of the only two remaining edo period feudal lord mansion in tokyo.
it was constructed in 1827 on the residence of the maeda clan.
historical indeed, but still no frame for me.

1000031049.jpg

this was my last attempt before leaving the university's vicinity.
this arch would have been perfect, having lots of people going out of this frame could have been perfect, but this night was just not one of those perfect nights.

kando myoujin shrine 神田神社(神田明神)

by this point my hopes were already down, and thoughts of the earlier issue at work kept playing back on my head.
imagine having a database on the cloud that do not correctly return data, that is a pretty useless database, isn't it.

1000031052.jpg

to be honest, i entered this temple in search of a toilet, but there doesn't seem to be one.
so i was trying my best to focus taking pictures, but i know it could have been better.

1000031053.jpg
this could have worked, the gold and the lights of the shrine were captured, but it lacked drama.
enough said.

1000031054.jpg
i am submitting this picture as my entry for the contest instead, i know it could have been better but the odds are against me at this point.
this could be better if there were just people casting shadows, or the subject was grander.
but at least their was a contrast between the "frame" and subject, please forgive me @friendlymoose.

1000031055.jpg

nonetheless, no one could take away the beauty of this shrine.
crimson and gold is such a dramatic combination.

1000031056.jpg

the festival float of this shrine was just on display at the main gate.
this could have been a better "subject" to my "frame".
oh well, gotta find that illusive toilet.

as always, AMPING KANUNAY!

wow kalayog naabtan. Senso-ji temples gate in would have been a nice frame example ⛩

oh yeah, haven't thought of that at all. next time.

yes yes next time

Nice series! I like the traditional buildings and the framing is cool!
Photographing in low light conditions can be quite tough, but most of your shots are looking good.
Do pay attention to your horizon. Some of the pictures have a skewed horizon. Most camera's (even a phone camera) can be configured to show guiding lines in your screen. This can prevent a skewed horizon. You can also straighten the picture afterwards.

thanks 😀 you are so correct, i often overlook the horizon when taking pictures. will keep this in mind more often

Excellent depiction of frames, and very healthy 14 K @actifit steps!👍
Have a great Friday, my friend !😊

thanks, my friend. same to you

👍😀
