it was a normal night but i was still on the search for a car pic. this time i am determined, i will get a car pic for sure this time. and i somehow formulated an idea of where to get this pic. just for context, it was around 2 degrees celsius this night with a bit of wind. my hand i was wearing gloves where you could expose the tips for easy celphone usage, and my fingertips felt like freezing after just a few seconds of walking. it was that harsh, so i limited my photography to as few minutes as possible.
in search for a car
i was already on the correct mindset the last time, take a car picture from a bridge. sadly the bridge last time was quite deserted, i just need a busy bridge. here is my second attempt. i could definitely here the cars from above this bridge, ogu bridge. it was near a train station so i was hoping to get more traffic. up these stairs could be the "pic" i was hoping.
there were more cars passing indeed, which would have meant more chances of taking great shots. the cars on this bridge were very fast moving, and given that it was at night, it was impossible to get a clear still picture of cars. it would be possible if i had a proper camera, but i was using my celphone. this picture above was the best in my judgment. i was satisfied with this picture, it perfectly showed how fast these vehicles were moving past me while still clearly showing that it was a car. this i will submit to @friendlymoose 's #pobphotocontest. after getting the shot, i immediately went down; it was significantly colder on top of the bridge.
the silence in the middle
this buddhist temple had a statue of a traveller monk outside its gates, quite unique in that aspect. it was closed at this hour, but this was a place of education since the 1840s. not much is written about kezō-in (華蔵院), but during the covid pandemic this statue outside was wearing a mask as well. i guess it was to remind people to always wear their masks when outside.
a little further was another place of worship, oguhachiman shrine (尾久八幡神社). based on the historical plate installed in the area, this shinto shrine was rebuilt on 1385 and believed to be built on 1312 when the land was donated. it had a moat surrounding the shrine back in the days, which was part of agricultural waters flowing in the fields nearby. both the agricultural fields and the moat were long gone.
amusement
i continued the walk until the amusement park, closed when i reached the area. the first time i visited, i failed to take a picture of the ferris wheel so now that i was back i made sure to take a picture of the grand wheel. i still find it impossible to believe that arakawa had a amusement park, this city is very residential and the park location is quite remote from traffic. the children in these areas were spoiled by the government for sure.
not far was a sports house, a multipurpose building for sports and fitness related activities. i was more excited of the light-up outside though. i am assuming that these are the mascots of the amusement park.
a little further was the main entrance of all of these facilities. they sure know how to decorate, those ferris wheel cars were very unique. and here we are again with the mascots in the light-up. just outside the gates was a tram station, i guess that was the main access point for all of these facilities.
the ending shot
on my way home, i passed by an overhead pedestrian bridge and ideas came running through my head; this could also be a good vantage point for my "car" photo. it was a good shot, but the cars were not the main subject it seems. the picture more likely tells the story of the road, so i'm submitting this to a @photofeed contest instead.
i guess tonight's nightwalk was a success. this nightwalker was very satisfied indeed walking back home with a smile.
as always, AMPING KANUNAY!

Sounds like a nice night of walking but the cold. I can't wait for the cold to make its way out and Spring to come. What about you? I think the photos of the cars on the bridge were interesting and should make for a good entry to the contest you speak of. The last photo is a good one too. IN fact I enjoyed all of them and thankful for you sharing them. I always enjoy our nightwalks together :-)
thanks! that is so reassuring to hear.
i'm beginning to feel lazy from this cold, can't wait for spring to come. it'll probably be less dreadful to walk during spring.
You are welcome.
I am getting anxious being inside so much. I hate the cold and it is not good for me to breath cold air so stuck inside a lot which I am beginning to hate. Yes, spring will be so much better as it will be warmer, flowers will be blooming and things will be fresh again.
it will be coming soon. feb is ending so you will be out in the sun soon
