My Actifit Report Card: August 19 2022

in Actifit3 years ago

Got the laptop sent off, so now I’m on a borrowed laptop. There isn’t so much angst about that as there could be, because even though it’s not mine I’m going to be able to use it as much as I need.

Got today’s daily game done, so now I’m just working on one last one for the one-page jam before I call it good for a while. I’m hoping to release a game on Sunday, mind you, but it’s not a one-page game.

Today’s game is Groveshire Heights, a Lasers & Feelings hack set in the Regency era.

It’s a bit of a disappointment to me because I wound up without the space to hit all my goals, but not enough stuff left in the tank to do a back-side. I think the core content is good, though, and there are a couple little gripes with Lasers & Feelings that I smoothed out in the process.

The other game I’m working on is a game that’s based on one of the settings I’ve worked on forever. It’s a fantasy roleplaying game that’s vaguely D&D-ish, though built to play a lot faster and give more flexibility in characters.

In particular, it uses a Domains system instead of a class system. You can invest XP into your aptitudes, specializations, or domains, and then buy abilities that use pools of resources that come from your domains.

It’s a somewhat complex system on its surface, but it allows for nearly infinite extensibility and customization without a lot of overhead or needless repetition. It’s also built to let GMs and players make one or two additions to the game without needing to worry about upsetting class balance, be player-centric, and use single-roll resolution, which all make play itself go pretty quickly once you know what you can and can’t do.

Overall, I wrote 5500 words today. That’s quite an accomplishment, and I’m going to bed tired but fulfilled.
