My Actifit Report Card: August 23 2022

in Actifit2 years ago

Okay, so today was not my greatest writing day ever, but I have two reasons for that.

One is that today was officially my day off after the weekend’s shenanigans, so I’m simply averaging out the stuff (yesterday was a shorter day as well, but at least it had an official blog post to count toward stuff).

That doesn’t mean I didn’t do anything. I actually wrote about 1500 words because I’m really into Alter Data, but I didn’t force myself onto my schedule today and it shows in the amount of output I got to.

Alter Data’s coming together really well, and Midjourney’s beta image renderer really helped me get a lot of good outputs to make it pop. I think that it’ll be something worth paying attention to when it comes out, and a lot of the visuals add quite a bit to the design, especially because of the odd format I’m stuck in because I only really have access to PowerPoint when it comes to simple low-effort layout. I know Publisher has its own stuff, but I hate it except for when I really need to have mathematically-driven controls, and since the Affinity stuff is set up for my laptop that’s away right now I’ve had to make do with what I have.

The beta for the new rendering mode for Midjourney only lasted a single day, but I made as good use of it as I could, getting a few things for Oasis Roads, Xenogeny, and Alter Data. It’s a significant improvement in coherence, and by the end of the beta I was getting pretty good stylized outputs.

One thing that I’ve decided to go back and do is rewrite the existing “adventure” for Oasis Roads with characters getting more specific details and motivations, which should give the GM something to play with as they set up the game. For instance, where the previous example just had “a mutant,” instead the players will be working with Sil, a member of a Vidaqan general’s household retinue. The marauders they encounter will have a named leader as well, giving each a little bit more pop, and there will be a high-quality Midjourney portrait for each of these figures.

Of course, my plan was to have three “adventures” (which are really more plot frames than true adventures), which means that I didn’t get all the content I need.

I discovered Photopea, which is a great little photo editor for web browsers. It has some patch tool stuff that is really helpful and it has worked well for my needs for a couple things for Alter Data and the Oasis Roads portraits.

Now I’m at a point where I can just put my head down and write for a while, and I’m looking forward to the improvements in productivity that should bring.
