Ma3str0's Environment Cleanup Walk: Oct 23 2023

in Actifitlast year (edited)

Heya Hiva シ

Ready or not, here I come..

-> from making first contact. Stay tuned to hear all about that, as well as my riverside trail adventure.

Adventure afoot!

The weather in Cape Town can vary greatly from one hour to the next. With that in mind.. it of course makes sense to seize the perfect moments which may come along. Today, that meant a noontime cleanup walk. Blessed by warm sunshine and a gentle breeze, I made my way up to the local wetlands/bush - around the 'Peers cave' area.

After..

While the Egyptian geese were enjoying a lunchtime swim in the local pond.. I opted to give them some space and venture deeper in the bush - towards the mountain. I managed to recover this large piece of transparent plastic, from a zone proven to be problematic in the past (in terms of litter).

This cracked plastic tub was another eyesore requiring remedy.

After..

An old pair of discarded denim trousers. I'm usually very careful when I bag any dirty clothing items like this (so as to not accidentally touch my skin on any part thereof). Who knows what kind of germs may be present!

After..

Whaddaya know!.. another lone shoe. I've now lost count!

After..

A plastic DVD cover. Haven't seen any tv's round this spot.. in the bag it thus went.

I tried to make sense of what this plastic packaging once contained.. alas, I'm still clueless. I don't recall reading the label when I picked it up.

How would I describe this one? Hmm.. it was a broken cylindrical piece of thin plastic. Maybe similar to one of those medical collar things which a vet may use to prevent an animal from scratching a wound? I could be way off, but that's what it reminded me of anyway.

As I made my way towards the riverside trail, I was greeted by some seemingly 'streetwise' individuals (whom I assume were 'local' inhabitants in the bush). They seemed curious by my actions (having apparently watched me for many days now). Although they didn't seem hostile.. this does demonstrate the potential 'invisibility' aspect for others potentially hiding in the bush.

I was happy to make first contact with them though.. as it further adds to my library of local knowledge - clearly beneficial to my overall mission. In fact, shortly after they ventured far up the riverside trail, I used the opportunity to do the same. On the path, I found a big amount of what appeared to be large brown envelopes.

I was surprised to find a couple of burst balloons. Perhaps they once drifted in the wind before popping?

Im not 100% certain what this pink garment was, though it may have been of a personal nature. As a result, I was relieved to be wearing a glove.

The final item collected was a well hidden plastic bottle. Can you spot it in first of the three photo's?

With the nearest municipal bins very full (still requiring emptying by the municipality).. I had to take the rubbish to the one by the local park (which thankfully still had plenty room). As you can see, it was another very successful day cleaning the environment. Thanks to everyone joining me on the adventure!

Till next time,

ma3str0
