Yesterday my father celebrated his 74th birthday. This limited my hiking possibilities. I did however drive to the nearest mountain range (90km; Beskid Śląski) and made a short hike to contemplate the sunrise from a low mountain peak.
The road to the mountain and its summit are adorned with 14 monuments of a Catholic Via Dolorosa (“Way of the Cross”). It's not a usual set of sculptures. It's been made by a renowned artist and arts professor. and the last one, "Jesus placed in tomb", is spectacular.
It is oriented to east and between the wings of two angels, one can see the highest peak of Beskidy Mts, Babia Góra. A fantastic place to be at the sunrise. There's a moment in the year when the sun rises directly from behind the open part of the tomb sculpture adding something mystical to it.
After the short trip we stopped in nearby city, Bielsko-Biała for a breakfast in a Syrian restaurant. Shakshuka made by a Syrian guy tasted wonderfully, accompanied by spiced coffee.
We then did a short walk around the city center, found the only in Poland monument of Martin Luther and then drove home.
The rest of my day was sitting (and eating) with my Dad. In the late evening (9pm) I added a fast paced 5km walk around my neighbourhood. Great day!
