Today was a fun day. We had the father-daughter dance. This is a dance put on by our community just about every year. The idea is to give fathers the opportunity to bond with their daughters as well as to model the type of behavior for how boys should treat your daughters if they go on a date. We go just about every year since my daughters were old enough to go. I always look forward to it.
One of the cool things that they do there is a dance competition. My daughters and I actually won it two years in a row, but we got shut out last year. So this year we were determined to get back into the winner's circle.
This song's for the dance competition. Were "Happy" by Pharrell and "Shake it off" by Taylor Swift. In between those two songs they rested with "Staying Alive" by the Beegees. The first song, Happy, was for the best Dad dancer. I lost that one. I should have rested after that but staying alive is an awesome song to dance to and I was just enjoying the time with my daughters.
I don't like showing too many pictures on the internet, so you'll just have to trust that that's my daughters and me at the dance.
When Shake It Off came on, we knew that we had to do our best. So we put a whole lot of energy into that song. I was already worn out because we put a whole lot of energy into Staying Alive as well. I was honestly really worn out. I was also sweating profusely 🤣. So when they announced the winners, they announced third place and second place first. And I was actually feeling a little bit dejected. When they announced us as the first place winners, I was so happy. It would have been a lot of work to put in to a losing effort.
I feel it's necessary to clarify that I am in no way a dancer. My daughters dance, but I usually just relegate myself to the dad shuffle. Will Smith explained it best in the movie Hitch (clip below) when he said "This is where you live." But when the title's on the line I'm more like Kevin James.
I finished the day with over 12,000 steps. That zero active minutes is a lie, though. I was basically having a hard attack out on the dance floor for at least 40 minutes straight. I also got 13 flights of state.
The final song of the night was Don't Stop Believing by Journey. I love this song actually. It's a classic.
Tomorrow's goal is 10,000 steps.
