It is currently the school holidays. I am a teacher so I was back in the classroom today tidying and setting it up for after the holidays. I get a lot done without students around. Our school has a vegetable garden. It has a nice rhubarb plant. I harvested some and cut away the dead leaves on the plant. The stalks are good to eat but the leaves are poisonous.
When I got home I washed them and then cut them up into chunks.
I put them in a pot with a little bit of water, cinnamon and a small amount of sugar (I am trying to cut down on sugar so I don't put much). I cook for about 15min on a low/medium heat stirring occasionally.
After a while the rhubarb will break up and become mushy. Now I have stewed rhubarb which I will put on my porridge tomorrow for breakfast. It also goes nice with vanilla ice cream when warm.
Hope you enjoyed my update today.

how come the leafes are poisonous and the branches are not?
I always got told this since I was young. But the science behind it is that there are high concentrations of oxalic acid in the leaves which does damage to the body. See link https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/rhubarb-leaves#oxalic-acid
Delicious stewed rhubarb 😋
