Madrid Río is a park in the surroundings of the Manzanares river in Madrid. It is also connected to Casa de Campo, the biggest park of the city.
The two margins of the river were occupied by the M-30, a road that surrounds Madrid to distribute the traffic of the city. However, the mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardón spent billions of euros in creating tunnels and a park above them.
The houses near to the road suffered the noise and pollution caused by the tunnel construction, the debt of the city skyrocketed and the tunnels suffered several inundations because of the river. However, the environment of the river was greatly improved, with part of the fauna returning to the area.
