The mighty sentinels of the Mountains!๐Ÿ˜Š
Just add a little rain, and step back โ€ฆ.these giant trees grow fast and tall in the Northwest!โ˜บ๏ธ
On the left we have a Western Red Cedar, and stretching skyward on the right is a magnificent Douglas Fir!
I looked up the lifespan of these giants and this is what I foundโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ
The Western Red Cedar has a lifespan of 1,500 years, and they believe many are much older but they canโ€™t be sure without cutting down the tree.๐Ÿ™„
The Douglas Fir, has a lifespan of over 500 years, up to 1,000 years!๐Ÿ˜Š
@elizabethbit has a formula that she and @actifit-lamb have used. They measure the circumference of the tree, and online there is a chart that can give you a very close, approximate age, for each species!๐Ÿ˜‡
These two trees are on the trail to my Canadian neighbors off grid cabin.
The only way to get to this cabin is on foot.
Grant and his Wife recently came down to their cabin, to celebrate Canadaโ€™s Thanksgiving.
They are back home in Canada now, and Silvertop was checking to make sure all the doors were securely locked!๐Ÿ˜Š
The rain continued to fall, as I quietly walked the forest trails, filled with more of these beautiful tall treesโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ.
No logging here, these trees are protected, for generations to come hike, and enjoy!๐Ÿค—
Just bring your raincoat Lol!๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿคฃ
Happy Friday everyone, enjoy the outdoors, till tomorrow Silvertop Mike ๐Ÿ˜Š

It is interesting to know that information about those trees with that great age, I liked the place and we must protect the vegetation, not to cut down trees, it is good to go from time to time places away from civilization to have a unique experience.

Generations come and go, and these trees stand majestically hopefully for the next โ€ฆโ€ฆ..โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

Old Growth cedar is the BEST!!! It feels just like wandering in the sequoias and redwoods. I've often expected one to talk to me like an Ent.

They certainly are majestic!๐Ÿ˜Š
We have one only feet from our house, that the Mrs calculated the age at approx 507 years old!โ˜บ๏ธ

You westsiders... SHEESH! LOL! The oldest on my place are only in the mid 100s. There are some stands of much older in the region but so much has been cut over the years. I'm down to doug fir and ponderosa pine which both grow fairly fast so despite being nearly 3 feet in diameter are only that old.

Itโ€™s really beautiful on the Eastern side. I keep telling the Mrs when she retires I would love to find a place on the drier and sunny side!๐Ÿ˜Š

Stevens or Pend Oreille county are the best in the WA side

Well, today up by the Canadian border isnโ€™t the best today Lol๐Ÿ˜…
We are running on solar batteries, dangerous high winds and heavy cold downpourโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜…
I hope youโ€™re having good weather!๐Ÿ˜Ž

We got the nice side of weather today. Sprinkled a bit as we headed up north but now it's mid 60s and cloudy so we will have another warmer night.

Well.....I got with @actifit-lamb and we looked up her old post which you can read here

You might want to get out your calculators though and take them with you!

The trees are majestic for sure!๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘ !LUV !HBIT

๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜…

Such lovely trees, and their fragrance is amazing. I'm so glad they are protected! The forestry service can always replace fast growing trees, but not these amazing giants that take 500 years to mature!

So very true!๐Ÿ˜Š
If you stop and think about the History these trees have witnessedโ€ฆโ€ฆ.
We figured out that our western red cedar tree in front of our front door was a seedling when Columbus discovered America!โ˜บ๏ธ

They are majestic and will still be around long after we're gone. Some trees can living more than 2,500 years, makes our short lives look like the blink of eye!

Beautiful pictures, living in the mountains is such a nice place to be!
