What makes snowfalls in the Northwest particularly dangerous, can be seen in the second photo!😳
Winter storms can start off with freezing rain, coating the roads with a thick layer of ice!
Now add four to six inches of wet snow on top of this, and you have the perfect recipe for multiple car accidents!😬
I hiked late this afternoon, hoping that the cold Nor’easter wind would die down!🥶
“Alexa, how cold is it outside?”
“Silvertop, a Nor’easter wind is blowing over 32 MPH, and it feels like 10 degrees!”😮
The wind was spinning up mini snow tornadoes ( we call these Snow Devils),in front of me as I hiked!🥶
Someone has been out plowing………
The large tire imprints in the snow suggested it was a tractor!😇
Halfway up my road the plowing stopped in front of my neighbor Kurt’s driveway.
His tractor sat in the driveway with a box scraper on the rear, weighted down with sand.
Liz texted Kurt and his wife Alma………..
“ kudos to the Man behind the tractor, Thank you so very much for plowing the road!”👍
Living off the beaten path has its advantages………..
Miles of hiking trails at your front doorstep, and beautiful forests that start in your backyard!😊
Winter snowstorms bring serious challenges as well………..
Down in the valley, very little snow has fallen, and quickly the plow trucks have scraped the roads clean.
Up in the foothills of the Mountains we are all but forgotten………..
You very quickly understand the importance of good friends…. and good neighbors!😊

It's heartwarming to hear about the sense of community and neighborly support in your area, @silvertop. Kurt and Alma sound like wonderful people, and it's great that Liz reached out to thank them. Oh, that fresh snow really is gorgeous! I wish we would get a nice big snowfall like that! I think it has only happened once so far this year. It freshens everything up and brightens up the dark winter days! But yes, the snow on top of ice can be treacherous. That happens here too. We’ve had days that started out with rain, thunder and lightning and then flipped to blizzard conditions. Crazy times! Thank goodness for your kind neighbors.
