My Actifit Report Card: December 9th 2023

in Actifitlast year

Another busy Saturday, in fact it’s so busy I can’t even do a parkrun!

My workday yesterday started with me getting into the car at 7:10am, and finished with me getting out of it at 4:13am. In the middle of that there was almost 8 hours of stiltwalking spread across 2 events in Dublin and 1 in Portlaoise. There was also some downtime after the Dublin gigs. And food, because I was fecking RAVENOUS after doing 2 gigs back to back 😂😂

At 21 hours, I think this is probably the longest day I’ve had in my 20years of performing. Obviously I don’t do too many days like that, but 14 hour days wouldn’t be unusual for me.

There is a point coming I promise, so if you’ve read this far, keep going 😉

“Hey Mal, how are your fitness levels these days?” is the question that was put to me a while back by a friend who books me for quite a few events.
“The reason I ask is I haven’t seen you posting about training on social media lately, and I want to make sure you’re still up for that extra gig we talked about… “ (it would have been 3 in 1 day).

The reason I don’t post a lot of fitness stuff is because I’m not really ‘into fitness’ or ‘working out’.

I’m ‘into’ being so physically capable that when i need my body to perform at an extraordinary level, I can be sure that it will.

Here’s the thing. Most fitness, when done well, is boring as fuck if you post about it regularly.

20 odd years as a fitness instructor/personal trainer has taught me that even doing just a little, but with consistency, is FAR superior than hopping from one fad/trend to another.

Small changes every now and then are usually all it takes to keep making improvements to the years in your life, and more importantly, to the life in your years.

Sure, every now and then I’ll set myself a challenge that will require a significant change to my routines, but once the challenge is done, I’m back to the standard routine.

My training, my routines are generally simple and basic, focused on performing at life. For life. <<—- That was the point 😄

Thanks for reading this far, I hope you enjoyed my 5am brain dump 😂😂
