International Cheetah Day is celebrated on 4 December to raise awareness of the dangers of cheetah extinction.
Today there are only 7000 cheetahs left in Africa, the only continent where they live. Poaching and farmers who perceive it as a threat are its main enemies.
This feline of great beauty and slender figure is the fastest land animal on Earth over short distances, easily surpassing 100 kilometres per hour in just 3 seconds, and for this it makes agile strides of up to 7 metres in length. However, its endurance is low, so if it has not reached its prey within 1 minute, it will stop hunting until it recovers from the effort.
One characteristic of this animal, unlike other felines, is that the spots on its body are not only on its fur but are tattooed on its skin.
As a curiosity its roar is more similar to the sound of a bird of prey than to the roar of a lion or a tiger.
