On way back from our mountain trip with my friends, we stopped to take a short break at Varvarski Mineral Baths.
They are located on the northern slope of the mountain hill Alabak - Western Rhodopes.
There is a mineral bath at the place, from which information board I learned that in the middle of the last century, the second hot spring in Bulgaria was discovered by drilling at a depth of 500 meters.
The water there is 92 degrees and has twice the concentration of metasalicylic acid than usual.
There is a pedestrian bridge next to the baths, on which I walked and enjoyed a wonderful view of the Chepinska River.
On the other side of the river I found a crumbling building that had once been a Mineral Bath.
Next to it I found a winding path that took me to the cliffs and to a railway line.
After lunch at the local inn we headed home, the rain chasing us along the way.
We watched the last August sunset from the car.
