Strolling At Yokohama Bay

in Actifit4 days ago

After eating and strolling at Yokohama Chinatown (you can read this post from @itz.inno on what we did), we went to Yamashita Park trying to explore the place. I suggested this as it was still early to go home and some of us said the huge gundam used to be around the area.

Last year on my birthday I came here briefly with my partner but we never went in further so I was surprised to see this big boat “parked” over here. We wanted to go in, but I investigated from afar and noticed the gate was closed. No boat explorations for that day.

Yamashita Park is actually quite spacious. Lots of flowers which weren’t there yet because of the season, some tall bonsai-like trees, many benches to sit overlooking the sea and a wide area for picnic. I guess what’s noticeable when you first come in was this fountain with a statue in the middle.

There were a group of young adults dressed up like they were in the 70s or 80s dancing to boogie music — let me correct that — Japanese boogie music. Our group was joking that we should join them, as the steps weren’t that hard. It was a Sunday, and maybe they meet here occasionally to dance and have cardio all in one.

The big gate of Yokohama Chinatown

From the park, you can actually see the big gate of Yokohama Chinatown. It’s only a few blocks away, so some people try to come here after eating a lot of food in Chinatown.

We walked from one end to another, stopping by for a few minutes to take photos and minding the ducks which were floating in the sea on sunset. They’re adorable to look at. Maybe it was their bath time. I totally forgot to take a photo of them. But I saw this structure which I don’t really understand what it is which looked like a dog. Can you see the dog from the image?

We continued walking, this time on a walkway above the streets and the port. It was a good walkway except that some parts there wasn’t any view — just people walking. In the next stairs, we descended and made our way to what we’ve been curious about when we were still from far away.

It was a passenger port that looked like an airport. Wait, isn’t this too fancy for a passenger port? It’s just so clean and nice looking!

We went on top of it, and yes, it’s accessible to the public! Actually it’s a park on top. The floor is covered in a great quality wood and you could say it’s a bit luxurious and classy for a “rooftop”. This is Osanbashi Pier - and they have trips to Tokyo and some other place.

Minato Mirai can be seen from here and the rest of Yokohama. It’s not so cold although it’s of course, windy to be staying here. But we stayed like that taking in all the view for a couple of minutes before we roamed around the area.

We found a “hall” with stairs that looked like it could be where the audience sits on the side, but the stage seems strange because there wasn’t an actual stage. We explored further and found the blue lights from the grassy space - the one we’ve been curious about because it could be seen from a diatance. @itz.inno kept saying you could lie down in the grass but there were lights so it wasn’t allowed - no stepping on the grass.

The walking didn’t stop there. We continued til the Red Brick Warehouse but before that, we stopped by the ice skating rink just to judge observe at people. No one from us dared to go in and be the laughingstock of the group. 😅

We made our way to Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and it was my first time to go inside. Actually I didn’t know you could go inside. Inside were different kinds of shops and on the 3rd floor were restaurants. I think it’s a good place to shop for Yokohama souvenirs if your budget isn’t too tight. Lots of great souvenir items. On the 2nd floor, we even found the balcony where you could have a street view of Yokohama - not really the perfect place to sightsee but the sofa was comfortable and a good place to hang if you’re escaping the crowd because only few people were here.

I thought we’re parting ways after Red Brick but one friend wanted to stop by Uniqlo to get something but there was none when we were walking so we went along with him finding the stop. On the way to Sakuragicho station we saw some gondolas. These were the cable cars of Minato Mirai that I wanted to ride with my partner last year and I was glad we didn’t really ride it. It was a bit close to the street, and we’re actually here on the under the cable car walking. It’s also a bit pricier but hey, it’s a bit romantic to ride it with a partner, right? 😉

We arrived at Sakuragicho station and found a Uniqlo on the nearby mall. The day ended with a friend buying what he came for in Uniqlo while the rest of hs window shopped. Oh wait, the day ended with me buying “groceries” at the international shop we found on that mall. We found Philippine Brand Mango and Guave juice - which I couldn’t resist getting. 😅

The colorful ferris wheel at Minato Mirai

Lots of steps today from walking and when I arrived home, my feet was sore. 😅 Are my shoes old already??

I remember the ferris wheel when I was in Yokohama a few years back! Nice share!

Thank you!

You find the most interesting things to explore! 😁

It was by chance! 😅
It's also good that we didn't plan anything so we'll discover them together 😉

That's a fun walk, there's a lot of beautiful things in every spot you visit. The view of that city with those tall and pretty buildings caught my attention the most. Ang ganda lang kasi 😻. And the ferris wheel, whoa, it is so massive, nakakalula na just seeing it. Haha

The ferris wheel! You should ride it one day! It looked like it wasn't moving when we were there, but I think it moved.
