There is a connection between Giorgio Moroder and this song. The album, Rising, or Rainbow Rising, was recorded at Giorgio Moroder's studio, Musicland Studios, in Munich. In this studio, the entire orchestra of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra was invited to record this album with Rainbow. I like classical music, rock and electro, and this song combines all three styles of music. They used an electronic organ from Vako Synthesizers Incorporated. The connection to Whitesnake also arises, apart from the fact that Whitesnake also recorded an album with Giorgio, Ritchie Blackmore, together with David Coverdale, was involved in Deep Purple, and actually he is also said to have had an influence on Still of the Night.
In this song, Ronnie James Dio tells an exciting story about a magician who uses people as slaves to realise his dream of flying, but dies in the end. The song is set in ancient Egypt and has an oriental influence.
A few weeks ago, my friend @uwelang wrote about Giorgio Moroder. Today about his favourite song, namely Whitesnake with Still of the Night. It's a good song too, it has to be said. His question was what is a good rock song for us. One of my favourite songs is Stargazer by Rainbow. I chose this song specifically because it fits in with the artists that Uwe introduced. You may have noticed that I like the history of the songs and their symbolism. I'd love to hear a rock song recommendation from @reiseamateur and @ravenmus1c, as people directly involved in the music, or even @slobberchops because he's from the land of rock.
Heute über seinen Lieblingssong, nämlich Whitesnake mit Still of the Night.
Lyrics
High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water
Nine years worth of breakin' my back
There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard
See how he glides, why he's lighter than air
Oh I see his face!
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, is it far?
When do we leave?
I believe, yes, I believe
In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
To see him fly
So many die
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
Just to see him fly
But don't know why
Now where do we go?
Hot wind, moving fast across the desert
We feel that our time has arrived
The world spins, while we put his dream together
A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky
Oh I see his face!
Where is your star?
Is it far, is it far, is it far?
When do we leave?
Hey, I believe, I believe
In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
Just to see him fly
Too many die
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But we don't know why
Ooh, now where do we go
All eyes see the figure of the wizard
As he climbs to the top of the world
No sound, as he falls instead of rising
Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand
Oh I see his face!
Where was your star?
Was it far, was it far
When did we leave?
We believed, we believed, we believed
In heat and rain
With the whips and chains
To see him fly
So many died
We built a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But why
In all the rain
With all the chains
Did so many die
Just to see him fly
Look at my flesh and bone
Now, look, look, look, look,
Look at his tower of stone
I see a rainbow rising
Look there, on the horizon
And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home
Time is standing still
He gave back my will
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is leaving here
But it's not home
But it's not home
Ooh
Take me back
He gave me back my will
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is leaving here
But it's not home
But it's not home
Ooh
Take me back, take me back
Back to my home ooh, ooh, ooh

Awesome song, from one of my favorite bands from the 70's! Then again I'm a huge Dio fan, so right up my alley. Such a cool song, great work!
I'm also a huge Dio fan, and would say that Black Sabbath was better with him, then with Ozzy.
That is a tough call, Ozzy was awesome, but Dio's vocals are way better than Ozzy ever could have done. I love Sabbath with both, but with Dio they were amazing!
Yes, tough, but Heaven&Hell is the best from Black Sabbath and this was Dios work.
No argument there, Dio was amazing, and one of kind. Such a shame he died so young.
True, that is why I'm doing a health check every 6 months, to avoid such issues. Many great man have left us, where a health check would have saved them.
I'm glad, so few people take that seriously. It can make the difference between six months of life expectancy and 30 years.
My post today mentioned the same. I'm not a huge country fan, but he died early from cancer.
It's great to meet another Dio fan, such a great singer shouldn't be forgotten
Just so tough because I love Ozzy, but he didn't have the vocal abilities of Dio, I don't think anyone really does.
Amazing song from a big underrated and often forgotten band. Everybody remembers Dio in his solo project, or Rainbow in their late works in the 80s. But this first album is a little masterpiece, I love It
