Hi,
I had yesterday a debate with a friend about which would be the best year in music, he mentioned 1979, and I went with 1969.
1979 was a great music year, with some of the greatest songs every written like Bohemian Rapsody or Highway to Hell.
I will stick with my 1969. 1969 was marked by the Vietnam War, moon landing and of course Woodstock.
I've started this post with a band that played at Woodstock, Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their song, Fortunate Son, became the hymn of the Vietnam War, even if it is an anti-war song.
One band that did not play at Woodstock was Led Zeppelin, but they brought this masterpiece called Whole Lotta Love out.
The Beatles were approaching the end, as they disbanded in 1970, but till this happened, they have been singing Come Together who had a funky sound in the bass guitar.
Speaking of The Beatles, a song released by them in 1967, was released as a cover in 1969 by Joe Cocker, and we must admit that the cover of * With a little help from my friends* trumps the original.
The hymn of Oktoberfest in Munich, was also born in 1969, Neil Diamond bringing Sweet Caroline to life.
Elvis was releasing some of his best songs in 1969,In the Ghetto being one of my favourites. He had the soul in him.
Speaking of soul, Stevie Wonder was making a name of himself.
A debut single that needs to be mentioned is the one from Jackson Five with I want you back. Another king, the King of Pop was born.
Will be closing with a different type of song, as it was futuristic for that age.
Which year would you pick as the best in music and why?
For me it was 1981 with legendary albums of Toto, Foreigner to name a few - actually 1981 - 1982 been the years :-)
There are so many iconic songs across the decades. I cannot even (and do not even want to) choose the best decade, let alone the best year.
1969 for sure. beatles abbey road, neil young everbody knows this is nowhere, santana santana, crosby stills and nash crosby stills and nash, jefferson airplane volunteers, the fifth dimension aquarius, the youngbloods get together, king crimson 21st century schizoid man, simon and garfunkel the boxer, john lennon cold turkey,, iron butterfly in a gadda davida, rolling stones gimme shelter, honky tonk women,
Nunja, das ist einfach
Led Zeppelin haben ihm die Treppe gebaut#Bowie is nen Gott und
