I very well, thank God, active, listening to music and watching some youtube videos, that's how I got to Shakira's Live and Off The Record where she gives us access to see the whole process of her Mongoose tour, I remember watching a few times this show and also the documentary because my sister is a big fan of this Colombian artist and has the DVD, but back then I had not delved too much into the lyrics of one of the songs that today calls my attention, once in fact I did an analysis about it, but today this song captured my attention again after seeing my sister rehearsing and recording a video for an activity in one of the Hive communities, she told me about Shakira's famous performance in her Mongoose tour, I repeat, I had seen it before but I had not done it critically, because when this material was released I was still very small, however now that I look at it again in detail I feel fascinated for several reasons that I will expose below.

Yo muy bien, gracias a Dios, activa, escuchando música y viendo algunos videos de youtube, fue así como llegué al Live and Off The Record de Shakira donde ella nos da acceso a ver todo el proceso de su tour de la Mangosta, recuerdo haber visto algunas veces este show y también el documental porque mi hermana es una gran fan de esta artista colombiana y tiene el DVD, pero en ese entonces yo no había profundizado demasiado en la letra de una de las canciones que hoy en día llama mi atención, una vez de hecho hice un análisis sobre ella, pero hoy en día esta canción volvió a capturar mi atención luego de ver que mi hermana ensayaba y grababa un video para una actividad en una de las comunidades de Hive, ella me habló del famoso performance de Shakira en su tour de la Mangosta, repito, yo lo había visto antes pero no lo había hecho de forma crítica, ya que cuando este material salió al mercado yo era muy pequeña aún, sin embargo ahora que vuelvo a mirarlo con detenimiento me siento fascinada por varias razones que voy a exponer a continuación.
The first thing that catches my attention is that quote from guitarist Jimi Hendrix on the screen, this introduces us and prepares us to the main message of this song, love, and if we analyze well the lyrics of the song we will realize that it is about the love that God had because he created the world and all the conditions for humanity to be happy, however this always tends to greed and evil. We know that the world was created in six days and the seventh day was used by God to rest, but what if this eighth day (which in reality could be taken as years or millennia) God used it to begin to analyze his work and even to be disappointed with it? And the fact is that this world created with so much care, with all the conditions to live in a perfect symbiosis had become an “infernal mess” translated into misery, wars, hunger, pain, and injustices, that the human race itself in a general sense, had created by ambition and in its eagerness to get more and more power and glory, but as it needed a scapegoat, of course the blame fell on God himself for “allowing all that to happen”.
Lo primero que captura mi atención es esa cita del guitarrista Jimi Hendrix en la pantalla, esto nos introduce y nos prepara al mensaje principal de esta canción, el amor, y si analizamos bien la letra de la canción nos daremos cuenta de que trata sobre el amor que tuvo Dios debido a que creó al mundo y todas las condiciones para que la humanidad fuese feliz, sin embargo esta siempre tiende a la codicia y a la maldad. También, si analizamos con más detalle encontramos que ese octavo día del que habla la canción no parece ser una equivocación de la artista, sabemos que el mundo fue creado en seis días y el séptimo lo usó Dios para descansar, pero ¿Qué tal si este octavo día (que en realidad podría tomarse como años o milenios) Dios lo usó para comenzar a analizar su obra e incluso decepcionarse de ella? Y es que ese mundo creado con tanto esmero, con todas las condiciones para vivir en una simbiosis perfecta se había convertido en un "Desorden infernal" traducido en miseria, guerras, hambre, dolor, e injusticias, que la propia raza humana en un sentido general, había creado por ambición y en su afán por conseguir cada vez más poder y gloria, pero como necesitaba un chivo expiatorio, desde luego la culpa recayó en el propio Dios por "permitir que todo eso ocurra".
We hear the first chords of the song accompanied by the sound of church bells, but when the stage lights come on we see something very curious, all the musicians are wearing masks, but they are not just any masks, they are masks of political leaders of that time, more or less 2004, and all this introduces us to a political and social context of today's world (since in reality not much has changed since then) Leaders who offer magical solutions to problems that they themselves have created. The leaders, the source of all problems, the victims are the most helpless, the humble, the poor, and the scapegoat, God, of course.
Oímos los primeros acordes de la canción acompañados por un sonido de campanas de iglesia, pero cuando las luces del escenario se encienden vemos algo muy curioso, todos los músicos llevan máscaras, pero no son cualquiera, son máscaras de líderes políticos de esa época, más o menos el 2004, y todo esto nos introduce a un contexto político y social del mundo actual (ya que en realidad no ha cambiado mucho desde entonces) Lideres que ofrecen soluciones mágicas a problemas que ellos mismos han creado. Los líderes, la fuente de todos los problemas, las víctimas son los más desvalidos, los humildes, los pobres, y el chivo expiatorio, Dios, desde luego.
But what strikes the audience the most is what is happening on the stage screen, two political leaders of that time, Saddam Hussein and George Bush, are sitting in front of a chessboard, as a grotesque analogy of how leaders actually play with people's lives, hundreds of thousands of innocent lives that have nothing to do with the ambition of those who make decisions for their own selfish interests.
Pero lo que más impacta en la audiencia es lo que está sucediendo en la pantalla del escenario, dos líderes políticos de esa época, Sadan Husein y George Bush, están sentados frente a un tablero de ajedrez, como una grotesca analogía de como los líderes en realidad juegan con las vidas de las personas, cientos de miles de vidas de inocentes que nada tienen que ver con la ambición de esos que toman decisiones en pro de sus propios intereses egoístas.
But in the bridge of the song, Shakira makes a parenthesis to give an emotional speech that reinforces everything I have been exposing in my analysis, with two elements as protagonists (leaders and love) of all her speech what I liked the most was a couple of phrases in particular: “Why is it so difficult to love each other” and “Love lacks leaders and leaders lack love”.
Pero en el puente de la canción, Shakira hace un paréntesis para dar un emotivo discurso que refuerza todo lo que vengo exponiendo en mi análisis, con dos elementos como protagonistas (los líderes y el amor) de todo su discurso lo que más me gustó fue un par de frases en particular: "¿Por qué es tan difícil amarnos los unos a los otros" y "Al amor le faltan líderes y a los líderes les falta amor"
After this on the screen something important is revealed, the chess pieces are transformed into oil towers and bombs, and both leaders in reality are nothing more than puppets manipulated by death, which in the end is the real winner of the game, while this happens we see real images of how devastating wars are: starving children, crying, destruction everywhere, misery, desolation and sadness, but death, although ruthless is also equitable and does not distinguish between rich or poor, powerful or weak, for her it is the same, so both leaders, who thought they were invincible succumb to his power.
Luego de esto en la pantalla se revela algo importante, las fichas de ajedrez se transforman en torres petroleras y bombas, y ambos líderes en realidad no son más que marionetas manejadas por la muerte, la cuál al final es la verdadera ganadora de la partida, mientras esto ocurre vemos imágenes reales de lo devastadoras que son las guerras: niños hambrientos, llorando, destrucción por todas partes, miseria, desolación y tristeza, pero la muerte, aunque es despiadada es también equitativa y no distingue entre ricos o pobres, poderosos o débiles, para ella es igual, por eso ambos líderes, que se creían invencibles sucumben ante su poder.
But as a last hopeful message, all the previous images disappear, giving way to a dove that represents peace as a difficult but plausible goal, definitely the perfect closure for the whole performance of this great singer. Truly, of all her performances this one is my favorite for all the reasons already exposed, and for that same reason I could not understand how the lyrical quality of her songs has dropped so much in order to satisfy a banal and hollow audience, but well, that seems to be the daily bread nowadays and it even seems to be an attempt to idiotize the masses and prevent them from thinking.
Pero como último mensaje esperanzador, todas las imágenes anteriores desaparecen, dando paso a una paloma que representa a la paz como un objetivo difícil pero plausible, definitivamente es el cierre perfecto para todo el performance de esta gran cantante. De verdad que de todos sus performance este es mi favorito por todas las razones ya expuestas, y por esa misma razón no logró comprender como la calidad lírica de sus canciones ha bajado tanto en pro de satisfacer a una audiencia banal y hueca, pero bueno, eso parece ser el pan de cada día actualmente e incluso parece ser un intento por idiotizar a las masas y evitar que piensen.
