BILLY SHEEHAN
Howdy, Hivers. On many occasions I have covered several bands with my electric bass and as a bass player, I have been asked which are the best bass players or the best known of the bands to which I do these reviews and covers, in this was born the idea of also talk a little of the member of the bands that may be ignored, which are the bass players; but although it seems arrogant to say it and more by a bass player himself, the bass plays an extremely important role in any group for the harmonic and melodic importance it represents. "Mr. Big" was the band through which I met this incredible bass player who over the years has been in several musical projects and has also created an excellent solo career, known for being part of "The Winery Dogs", "Mr. Big" and being bass player for "Steve Vai"; this bass player is "BILLY SHEEHAN". With a very impeccable playing quality Billy has been creating a path in the musical world in an outstanding way, for his style of playing and for his ability; he is a musician born in New York and has been chosen as the best rock bass player for 5 times by Guitar Player magazine. Since he was a child, he showed his love for music by wanting to be a guitarist, and after the death of his grandmother, he was able to get one after her insurance proceeds were used to buy a guitar for Sheehan. In a short time he was already able to play several songs, but then he met the four-stringed instrument that captivated him and that's how his love for the bass guitar came about. Influenced by Tim Bogert of the band Vanilla Fudge, he began to know this instrument and thus began as a bassist and is now known as one of the best and greatest representatives of this instrument.

En muchas ocasiones he realizado cover de diversas bandas con mi bajo eléctrico y como bajista, me han preguntado cuales son los mejores bajistas o los más conocidos de las bandas al cual les hago estas reseñas y covers, en esto nace la idea de también hablarles un poco del miembro de las bandas que tal vez sea ignorado, que son los bajistas; pero aunque parezca arrogante decirlo y más por un propio bajista, el bajo juega un rol sumamente importante en cualquier agrupación por la importancia armónica y melódica que representa. “Mr. Big” fue la banda por el cual conocí a este increíble bajista que a lo largo de los años ha estado en varios proyectos musicales y ha creado también una carrera como solista excelente, conocido por formar parte de “The Winery Dogs”, “Mr. Big” y ser bajista de “Steve Vai”; este bajista es “BILLY SHEEHAN”. Con una calidad en ejecución muy impecable Billy se fue creando un camino en el mundo musical de forma sobresaliente, por su estilo de tocar y por su capacidad; es un músico nacido en Nueva York y ha sido elegido como el mejor bajista de rock por 5 veces por la revista Guitar Player. Desde pequeño mostró amor por la música al querer ser guitarrista, logrando tener una luego del fallecimiento de su abuela, que con el cobro de su seguro parte del dinero se destinó para que Sheehan comprara una guitarra. En poco tiempo ya lograba tocar varios temas musicales, pero luego conoció el instrumento de cuatro cuerdas que lo cautivó y así surge ese amor por el bajo. Influenciado por Tim Bogert de la banda Vanilla Fudge, empezó a conocer este instrumento y pues de ese modo se inició como bajista y se conoce ahora como uno de los mejores y mayores representantes de este instrumento.
MUSICAL HISTORY
He began his first steps in a local band which had a modest success in the area, Billy belonged to "Talas" with whom he was until it disbanded in 1983, state here was forging a position as a musician and given his quality as a performer and ideas, was taken into account to form the most successful band where Sheehan was, which was "Mr Big" here maintained a long career until disbanded in 2002, where they separated and begins a solo career and since then has made several albums as a soloist singing and playing bass. Then in 2009 "Mr Big meets again while his good friend and drummer Mike Portnoy calls him to be part of "The Winery Dogs" as well as "Songs of Apollo" but this in 2017, this being the youngest band where he has belonged. Of the most famous artists he was Steve Vai's bass player for a long period of time leaving a strong relationship of friendship between all these great musicians.
Inició sus primeros pasos en una banda local la cual tuvo un modesto éxito en la zona, Billy perteneció a “Talas” con quienes estuvo hasta que se disolvió en 1983, estado aquí se fue forjando un puesto como músico y dada su calidad como ejecutante e ideas, fue tomado en cuenta para formar la banda de mayor éxito en donde estuvo Sheehan, que fue “Mr Big” aqui mantuvo una larga trayectoria hasta disolverse en 2002, donde se separaron y empieza una carrera de solista y desde entonces ha realizado varios discos como solista cantando y tocando el bajo. Luego en 2009 “Mr Big se reúne nuevamente mientras su buen amigo y baterista Mike Portnoy lo llama a formar parte de “The Winery Dogs” asi como también de “Songs of Apollo” pero esto en 2017, siendo esta banda la más joven donde ha pertenecido. De los artistas más famosos fue bajista de Steve Vai por un largo periodo quedando una fuerte relación de amistad entre todos estos grandes músicos.

His talent and magnificent ability gave him a privileged position as a bass player, earning him to be one of the images of Yamaha, having a custom bass with his name, with two sound pickups and two inputs for a stereo and independent sound, achieving a sound quality difficult to match, where its equalization gives a saturation and distortion when playing the strings with force and in soft songs gives the required cleaning when playing the soft strings, it should be noted that it has a double bass where each one has a tuning that gives greater amplitude as far as sound frequencies are concerned. Truly a master on the bass and an incredible musician..
Sheehan, mantiene en sus composiciones varias técnicas y estilos de ejecución del bajo, donde el Slap, tap, doble pulgar, uso del slyde y figuras cromáticas, progresiones de notas y una velocidad increíble en los dedos. Su talento y magnífica habilidad de dieron un puesto de privilegio como bajista, ganando ser una de las imágenes de Yamaha, teniendo un bajo customisado con su nombre, con dos pastillas de sonido y dos entradas para un sonido estéreo e independiente, logrando una calidad de sonido difícil de igualar, donde su ecualización le da una saturación y distorsión al tocar las cuerdas con fuerza y en canciones suaves le da la limpieza requerida al tocar las cuerdas suaves, cabe destacar que posee un bajo doble donde cada uno posee una afinación que le otorga mayor amplitud en lo que a frecuencias de sonido se refiere. Realmente un maestro en el bajo y un increíble músico.
