Si te dedicas a la música seguro ya haz escuchado todos esos comentarios en donde te dicen "si estudias música te vas a morir de hambre", por eso en este artículo te mostraré algunos estudios realizados por empresas reconocidas a nivel internacional dónde demuestran que la industria musical es una de las más rentables e inclusive se puede comparar con industrias como la petrolera.

¿Qué es la industria musical?

La industria musical se puede definir como el conjunto de empresas y profesionales que a partir de la explotación de la propiedad intelectual de una obra musical generan ganancias.

En ella no solo se encuentran los grandes artistas y sellos discográficos 💿 ya que también hay millones de trabajadores quienes no siempre (por no decir que nunca) se llevan el crédito. Entre ellos los ingenieros de sonido, los productores tanto musicales como audiovisuales, los coreógrafos y bailarines, fotógrafos, especialistas en marketing, camioneros, los famosos "recoge cables" y así un cientos de profesionales que se mueven en torno a la idea musical que tuvo una persona en determinado momento.

What is the music industry?

The music industry can be defined as the group of companies and professionals that generate profits from the exploitation of the intellectual property of a musical work.

In it are not only the great artists and record labels 💿 since there are also millions of workers who do not always (not to say never) take the credit. Among them are sound engineers, music and audiovisual producers, choreographers and dancers, photographers, marketing specialists, truck drivers, the famous "cable collectors" and hundreds of professionals who move around the musical idea that a person had at a certain time.

Llegamos al punto clave de este artículo, ¿Cuál es el valor de la música?

Según los estudios realizados por la Federación Internacional de la Industria Fonográfica (IFPI por sus siglas en inglés) publicados en marzo del 2021, la industria discográfica (es decir la industria encargada únicamente del material fonográfico) tuvo un valor a nivel mundial de 21.600 millones de dólares en el año 2020.

Por otra parte los estudios de la RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) publicados este mismo año indican que solo en Estados Unidos la música latina ha generado un ingreso de 654,6 millones de dólares. Estos ingresos se dividen de la siguiente forma:

Así mismo el estudio demuestra que la contribución económica total de la industria musical al PIB de Estados Unidos es de 170 millardos de dólares y brindo trabajo a 2.466.026 profesionales dedeicados a trabajar de forma directa e indirecta en ella.

Vivir de la música ¿Es algo rentable?

Desde el punto de vista lógico puede sonar bastante fácil y rentable, si trabajas en una industria capaz de generar más de 21mil millones de dólares en un año con generar menos del 1% ya es algo que puede sonar bien para muchos.

Ya hablando más desde un punto de vista más personal y sin ánimos de desalentarlos pero lo "cierto" es que la música por si sola no es algo rentable a menos de contar con algún golpe de suerte basado en que algún super productor te descubra y te lleve al estrellato, la industria musical requiere de tiempo, esfuerzo, dedicación y pasión por lo que se hace adicional a algo bastante de inversión en conocimientos, instrumentos y equipos, entre otras cosas.

Más allá de ser algo rentable o no quienes se dedican a esto saben que es algo de perseverancia en trabajar en algo que te gusta y que a futuro será recompensado ❤️

Is making a living from music profitable?

From a logical point of view it may sound quite easy and profitable, if you work in an industry capable of generating more than 21 billion dollars in a year, generating less than 1% is something that may sound good for many.

Speaking more from a more personal point of view and without discouraging them but the "true" is that music alone is not something profitable unless you have some stroke of luck based on some super producer discover you and take you to stardom, the music industry requires time, effort, dedication and passion for what is done in addition to some investment in knowledge, instruments and equipment, among other things.
