Wild Horses

Have you ever actually looked up how many songs there are about wild horses? It seems to be a strong theme in music. Horses have always been viewed as quite majestic creatures.

Recently when I went to see my friend Shelley she told me about her years of horse riding. She was quite a big name in the horse sector and she's a good story teller.

"Wild Horses" - Rolling Stones - Cover by Chiara Kilchling

This song has been covered like a gazillion times! I like the Bush version too

This horse looked mischievous and full of attitude!

She had a horse many years back that was a thorough-bred race horse. Not the kind of pony you can jump on and just go for a trot around the block on. Nope, he was a trusty steed with an addiction to speed. They had a really close bond and she used to take him down to the beach bare-back. Where the line in the sand moves from soft and fluffy to compacted and wet...that's where she would hunker down on his neck, tuck her feet and let go of the reins.

He waited for that split second where he knew that it was now all him. He was in charge and he could just let it all go.

I really, really like this next one right here...

I'm five generations of blazing a trail
Through barbed wire valleys and overgrown dells
I'm barefoot and bareback and born tough as nails

I'm four-fifths of reckless and one-fifth of jack
I push like a daisy through old sidewalk cracks
Yeah, my kinda crazy's still running its courses with
Wildflowers and wild horses

Wildflowers And Wild Horses ~ Lainey Wilson

She explained it like this

"𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝒔𝒐 𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒚, 𝒊𝒏𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒂𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒐 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒐".

It was a beautiful moment they shared together. He had her and they had this stunning trust with and for each other.

I've never ridden on horseback. Was it Sherlock Holmes that said "They're dangerous at both ends and... crafty in the middle." but if there was anyone that could convince me to get on one, it would probably be her. Her story moved me and gave these songs more expression and relevance at the time. I figured I'd share some of them with you.

Some others that I think should be mentioned but aren't linked:

Who's gonna ride your wild horses? - U2

The Rip - Portishead

I've done some horse riding and enjoyed it; they're incredible creatures really and leave one feeling, free, I guess is the way I'd explain it.

dangerous at both ends and crafty in the middle

Yes, Robert Downey Jnr said that in one of the SH movies I believe...it always make me laugh. They are too, or can be, but they're still legit creatures.

That's exactly what Shelley was trying to convey I think - that feeling. I'm not surprised you've been horse riding. That naughty looking horse probably was crafty, he kept huffing at me 🤣

Like you say, they're legit, I like most animals so even though I wouldn't say they're my favourite, they have a place of respect in my mind.

I'd teach you...but you'd have to wear a geeky horse riding helmet...I'd be wearing my Akubra of course...you'd need to qualify for Akubra status though.

What beautiful songs, I love them!

You know? Horses are next to cats my favourite animals, I had never ridden one until a celebration in the outskirts of the city, when I lived in Argentina, I got on the horse as if I had done it all my life, I loved that moment, we were one with the horse. I think it was in my blood. We looked at each other and we connected. Horse = freedom!

These pictures are wonderful, thank you @emma-h2 ❤️

I'm so glad you liked them, they are cool, that second one is the shizzle! You rode? Cool, so you know then what it feels like. It's nice that you have that kind of connection with animals. Maybe I just don't have it with horses, hence that naughty one being feisty with me.

Hope the start of your week has been awesome so far Amonet.

I rode only once and I loved it! I love animals and looking at their eyes makes me connect with them, thanks to you for those wonderful pictures!❤️

Some great writing! Thanks for sharing!

Just a beautiful post! My God, how lovely!!!

I have also never ridden on a horseback and I'm sure it will be a wonderful experience
I've never heard about wild horse but I know that there are some wicked horses, lol

You should look up what wild horses are all about, there's a reason they write songs about them. I wouldn't mind seeing them one day...at a distance
