On January 7, 1980, “In Through the Out Door”, Led Zeppelin's eighth and final studio album, went platinum.
Released on August 15, 1979, this album reached number one on the charts in several countries, including the United Kingdom, United States and Canada.
Recorded at Polar Studios in Stockholm in November and December 1978, it was produced by Jimmy Page and Peter Grant, and features the band members Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass and keyboards) and John Bonham (drums).
“In Through the Out Door” is considered one of Led Zeppelin's best works, with iconic tracks such as ‘Fool in the Rain’, ‘In the Evening’ and ‘All My Love’.
On this album, Jones' keyboards took center stage, which surprised fans and critics alike, although songs like “In The Evening” maintained the band's signature sound.
Tragically, this would be Led Zeppelin's last album with John Bonham, who passed away on September 25, 1980. His death marked the end of the band in its original form.
Interestingly, John Paul Jones co-wrote six of the album's seven songs, and “All My Love” was written by Plant as a tribute to his late son.
