Syd Barrett always showed a deep passion for music, with an eclectic taste that spanned several genres, including rock, funk and, above all, blues.

His blues collection was remarkable, and featured a wide variety of singers. Among them were two iconic figures: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

One afternoon, while enjoying an LP by Blind Boy Fuller, a talented blues guitarist originally from North Carolina, Syd came across a text by Paul Oliver on the back cover of the record.

In this text the names Pink and Floyd were mentioned, which ignited a creative spark in him. Thus was born “The Pink Floyd Sound”, a name that would eventually be shortened to simply Pink Floyd.

Pinkney Anderson, known as Pink, was born in South Carolina in 1900. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in music and began playing guitar at the age of fourteen.

Despite the difficult conditions in which he performed, Pink gradually gained control over his music and continued to play until his death in 1974. His death went unnoticed by many, as few recognized his talent as a bluesman.

On the other hand, Floyd Council was born in 1911 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. At the age of nineteen, he began to make a name for himself in some local halls and bars, becoming a respected figure in his region. However, his national recognition was limited.

Throughout his life, Floyd continued to play in North Carolina bars, but a stroke in the late 1960s affected his ability to sing and play. He passed away in 1975 due to a heart attack.

Although Pink Anderson and Floyd Council never met and do not appear together on blues compilations, their names have been etched in musical history thanks to the origin of the name of the iconic band Pink Floyd.
