The Dark Side: Twin Tribes

in Music23 days ago

Welcome Invisibles of the night to a new episode of my format "The Dark Side" that talks about music with dark sounds. I remind you that dark can be found in any genre, even pop, so I invite you to contribute to this format in your own way, presenting an artist, a song, or a set of songs that tell your darkest musical taste. Use the tag #darkmusic and tag me if you try this and I will be happy to share and reward your posts 🖤

The band I want to talk to you about today falls within the darkwave genre and they are

TWIN TRIBES

Twin Tribes are a Texan duo with Hispanic origins who have dedicated themselves to producing music inspired by goth rock, new wave and classic post-punk from the 80s. The duo is made up of Luis Navarro on guitar and vocals and Joel Nino Jr on bass and synthesizers. This is for the live performance, because in the studio they both take care of the production of synths, drum machines and vocal parts.

Theit most known and iconic song: Fantasmas

The project was born in 2017, inspired by iconic bands such as Depeche Mode and The Cure, but also by other minor artists from Latin America.
Their sound is composed of a strong use of synthesizers and drum machines with a retro taste, accompanied by guitar chords and arpeggios with a clear and sparkly tone. Luis sings in a low and deep pitch, flooded with delay and reverb effects, as well as all the other instruments, creating an ethereal and dreamy, romantic and cathartic atmosphere.

The lyrics, quoting Twin Tribes themselves, talk about "the undead, the occult and parallel universes". They have so far released 4 albums, without departing from the starting sound and therefore maintaining total coherence with the original identity of the project.

I personally tend to avoid new bands that present a sound that is too retro and that already appears old. However, Twin Tribes are very good and deserve all the success they are having and I consider them a true model for the new global gothic scene.
I had the chance to see them live a few weeks ago and it was a really great experience.

As for the latest album, Pendulum, released this year, I leave you with my favorite song: Monolith

So, I hope you enjoyed this episode of The Dark Side and I'd really be so happy if you'd like to share your own post with the tag #darkmusic 🦇
