I like Uncle Earl, an all-female bluegrass and old-time band. One of the best acoustic acts out there. I'm not so much a fan of mainstream country & western. I also have the Dollyrots and the Halo Friendlies in my pop-punk rotation. And then there's Blackmore's Night.

I've heard of a couple of those artists you mention although can't say I've heard any (much) of their work. I'll be chasing it down though, thanks for the tips!

I can also add that two decades after their "unpatriotic" faux pas, I still think the Dixie Chicks deserved better.

Yep, I agree with the Dixie Chicks comment, but disagree with them having to (feeling the need to) change their name. I've seen them a few times in concert; amazing talent.
