Cantar, tocar por oído e imitar sonidos, es algo que todos podemos hacer. Pero… ¿Sabías que puedes dejar en papel esas melodías y que eres capaz de leerlas o incluso interpretarlas?
Leer y escribir música es como aprender otro idioma. Debes conocer y recitar el alfabeto, practicar la pronunciación y sobretodo debes tener la mente abierta y dispuesta para dejar entrar todo ese conocimiento y aplicarlo cuando llegue el momento.
Singing, playing by ear and imitating sounds is something we can all do. But... Did you know that you can put those melodies on paper and that you are able to read or even interpret them?
Reading and writing music is like learning another language. You must know and recite the alphabet, practice pronunciation and above all you must be open-minded and willing to let all that knowledge in and apply it when the time comes.
Hace poco participé en un proyecto de iniciación a la música para niños y jóvenes donde debía grabar mi ponencia para que salieran en un módulo de clase online. Lo hice sin esperar nada a cambio porque la muchacha que lidera el proyecto, aunque no nos conocemos en persona y tiene poca experiencia en los medios, sé que hace un excelente trabajo con los niños venezolanos y me pidió el apoyo. También tenía una larga jornada en la que no daba clases de música por lo que no me molestaba ayudar y escribir mi parte me hizo sentir muy bien.
I recently participated in a music initiation project for children and young people where I had to record my presentation to be included in an online class module. I did it without expecting anything in return because the girl who leads the project, although we do not know each other in person and she has little experience in the media, I know she does an excellent job with Venezuelan children and asked for my support. I also had a long time off from teaching music classes so I didn't mind helping out and writing my part made me feel very good
Quiero compartir parte de mi ponencia escrita y algunas fotos del día de grabación de audio y video en el estudio, esperando llegar a algún lector curioso amante del conocimiento y la música.

I want to share part of my written paper and some photos of the audio and video recording day in the studio, hoping to reach some curious knowledge and music loving reader.

1.- Qué es la música. La música nos rodea | What is music. Music is all around us
Primero debemos saber qué es la música y la definición más técnica es que es una sucesión ordenada de sonidos que son amables al oído. Lo cierto es que la música está en todas partes, solo debemos prestar atención, la podemos escuchar, la podemos sentir y la podemos ver.
First we must know what music is and the most technical definition is that it is an ordered succession of sounds that are kind to the ear. The truth is that music is everywhere, we just have to pay attention. We can hear it, we can feel it and we can see it.
La calle, por ejemplo, tiene un sonido y un ritmo particular, los pájaros cantan melodías para comunicarse y las imágenes también suenan, como cuando ves una serie, una película e incluso en los videojuegos.

The street, for example, has a particular sound and rhythm, birds sing melodies to communicate and images also sound, like when you watch a series, a movie and even in video games.

2.- Importancia del Lenguaje Musical: Aprendiendo a comunicarnos | Importance of Musical Language: Learning to Communicate
Lo maravilloso de saber escribir, de leer o hablar correctamente es el poder comunicarnos con las personas que logramos alcanzar, es decir, que somos capaces de hablar y decir lo que sentimos o pensamos con quienes hablan nuestro mismo idioma.
The wonderful thing about knowing how to write, read or speak correctly is to be able to communicate with the people we are able to reach, in other words, we are able to speak and say what we feel or think with those who speak the same language as we do.
Al aprender música nuestro alcance puede llegar muchísimo más lejos, siendo un idioma universal que no cambia en todo el mundo. Al entenderla, escribirla e interpretarla es capaz de llegar de Venezuela a España, de México a Francia, desde el año 1800 al 2021; en papel está plasmada, lleva un mensaje y cualquier persona, multitud o cultura que la escucha puede entenderla y sentirla.
By learning music our range can reach much further, being a universal language that does not change around the world. By understanding, writing and interpreting it, it is able to extend from Venezuela to Spain, from Mexico to France, from the year 1800 to 2021; on paper it is embodied, it carries a message and any person, crowd or culture that listens to it can understand and feel it.
3.- Pulso, tempo y ritmo | Pulse, tempo and rhythm
Ahora bien, ¿cómo empezamos este aprendizaje de un nuevo idioma? Definiendo y sintiendo lo más básico y primitivo de la música.
Toda melodía tiene pulso, tempo y ritmo. Para hacerlo simple, el pulso es cómo sientes la música, como cuando llevas una canción con el cuerpo.
Now, how do we begin this learning of a new language?By defining and feeling the most basic and primitive aspects of music.
Every melody has a pulse, tempo and rhythm. To make it simple, the pulse is how you feel the music, like how you move when you listen to a song.
El tempo define qué tan rápido o lento es ese pulso, lo calculamos en bits por minuto.
Y el ritmo es la manifestación sonora dentro de este pulso, con un tempo. A veces tienen patrones reconocibles que nos ayudan a reconocer un género o estilo, como por ejemplo el vals, el rock o la salsa.
The tempo defines how fast or slow that pulse is, we calculate it in bits per minute.
And the rhythm is the sound manifestation within this pulse, with a tempo. Sometimes they have recognizable patterns that help us recognize a genre or style, such as waltz, rock or salsa.
Hagamos un ejercicio sencillo: Pon tu mano derecha sobre tu pecho y escucha tu corazón, ese es el pulso. ¿Es lento, es rápido?, ¿estás calmado, nervioso, acelerado?(tempo). Ahora con tu voz imita el pulso de tu corazón (tempo/ritmo). Si tienes a alguien a tu lado, posiblemente sean tiempos diferentes. Por último, con tu otra mano haz un ritmo libre.
Let's do a simple exercise: Put your right hand on your chest and listen to your heart, that's the pulse, is it slow, is it fast, are you calm, nervous, racing? (tempo). Now with your voice imitate the pulse of your heart (tempo/rhythm). If you have someone next to you, they may be different tempos. Finally, with your other hand, make a free rhythm.
A veces el pulso y el tiempo son diferentes. Puede que el pulso lo sientas de una manera y el tiempo sea más rápido o viceversa. Esto puede ayudar a escribir mejor los ritmos.
Sometimes the pulse and tempo are different. You may feel the pulse one way and the beat is faster or vice versa. This can help you write better rhythms.
Palabras Finales | Final Words
Al inicio todo parece muy confuso y enredado, y con razón porque es un nuevo idioma que aprender. Se trata de escuchar, de escribir, de hablar y practicar hasta que se haga fluido. Todos somos capaces de aprender, seamos niños, jóvenes o adultos, solo necesitamos la disposición de querer aprender y una mente abierta para recibir conocimiento.
At the beginning it all seems very confusing, and rightly so, because it is a new language to learn. It's all about listening, writing, speaking and practicing until you become fluent. We are all capable of learning, whether we are children, young people or adults, we just need the willingness to learn and an open mind to receive knowledge.
Antes de todo esto, tenía pensado un proyecto donde dejaba grabada las clases de lenguaje musical para ir aprendiendo poco a poco este lenguaje universal, por lo que espero tomar mejor iniciativa y pronto montar mi ponencia completa por video. Esta vez, cuando lo grabé no quedé muy satisfecha con el resultado, tampoco contaba con mucho tiempo y esperaba que al ser llevado a post producción se hiciera magia pero todos sabemos que no es fácil. Aunque se puede hacer mucho con unas imágenes y material de apoyo. Deseo mejorar para el futuro.
Before all this, I had a project in mind where I recorded the musical language classes to learn little by little this universal language, so I hope to take better initiative and soon share my complete speech by video. This time, when I recorded it I was not very satisfied with the result, I didn't have much time and I was hoping that when it was taken to post production it would be made magic but we all know that it is not that easy. Although a lot can be done with some images and support material. I wish to improve for the future.
