Right from when I was a beginner drummer till date, I have discovered that it is my curiosity that has been catapulting me to my improvement. Never for once have I been waiting to be spoon-fed, even when I met my boss YD groove, I still didn’t relent to be spoon-fed.

I could remember, anytime I watch a drum tutorial online, I end up learning even more than what I didn’t expect.

Anytime the teacher says something I don’t know, maybe like a musical term, I will quickly note it down or I will pause the video and then look for what that means.

My curiosity lead me to learn more and more.

Curiosity is the feeling of being so eager or inquisitive about something, like the feeling of wanting to know more about a particular thing.

Don't wait for others to spoon feed you with knowledge. You should be willing to do research and discover some things on your own. I keep saying it, you cannot be lazy and achieve excellence in music.

Just like the adage that says no food for lazy man so as it is in music, there is no expertise or professionalism or excellence for a lazy man.

Be always intentional and curious to make research. It is through research you gain knowledge. Be curious enough that you would pause a music movie just to check the internet for the meaning of a new word you heard in the music movie.

Be curious enough that you would go to YouTube to understand concepts about your field in music. Don’t just sit down and wait for someone like me to post about it, what if I don’t get the inspiration to write about that concept in drumming that you really need help with?

A curious musician is like a music maniac, it will look like they are carrying music too much on their head, and people will even start saying this one is obsessed with music.

You keep looking for whom to teach you drums every day. What about if you don’t see one? Let me even throw this question to you all; When last did you spend time to learn something new on your own?

When last did you buy or download a book on drum or listen to an audio course on a confusing subject matter relating to drums?

When did you enroll for an online drum class?

I woke up around 3am one faithful morning, I was feeling hungry so I woke up to eat, along the line I came online on whatsapp to reply some messages only to discover that Stickycub one of my friend was still online, so we chatted and I got to know why he was still online.

This man was using the free YouTube data MTN gifted him to study on YouTube. Why didn’t he watch comedy kit with it, why didn’t he watch short movies with it? This is how you will know someone who is curious and intentional about drumming.

knowledge doesn’t satisfy someone. There is more to music than what you think it is. Take music to be a puzzle that changes every season, when you come to crack the puzzle you get your result and when another
person also come to crack that same puzzle he will get a different result.

Money doesn’t lose Value, its people that lose value. That is absolutely true. Understand something, Everyone needs who can deliver. That’s why it’s imperative to build yourself consistently in this world of music.

It is always about what you can offer, and if you are not curious to learn new things how will you have a value to offer or a value people can hype you with?

The mistake most drummers are making now is that they’ve placed money over value. You are still a beginner drummer what is your business with billing people for the service you render.

Wow, is that really what you should be thinking about? Instead of you to be learning you are learning how to charge people for a program.

Make LEARNING your LIFESTYLE. Always Search for knowledge, have the hunger to know more. LEARNING is LIVING. Trust me, you don't need more money, you need more WISDOM.

Stop chasing money, chase knowledge and get that value. People will chase you for the value you have in you.

Your passion for learning and self-improvement is truly commendable. Curiosity is indeed the driving force behind mastery, and your experience proves that true growth comes from intentional learning, not just waiting to be taught. The emphasis on research, persistence, and valuing knowledge over money is a lesson every aspiring musician should take seriously

Money isn't everything.
