As an artist, the most fulfilling thing for me is writing my own music and seeing a song come to live.
However, from time to time I also like doing an interpretation of a famous song that I love. My approach here is not only doing a simple cover of the song but trying to do it in my own style.
So I took the famous Black Sabbath classic War Pigs and transformed it into a laid-back acoustic tune. Recording and mixing was pretty straight forward - just voice and an acoustic guitar. For the mastering I tried out the Abbey Road Vinyl plugin to give the song an extra vintage touch. Thankfully my wife agreed to help me shoot a video clip for the song - a bit challenging when you have two kids. You can read her report here.
Sabbath fun fact: Originally, the song was entitled Walpurgis, but as the record company found it too satanic, Black Sabbath changed the title to War Pigs. The lyrics however remained the same.
War Pigs
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerer of death's construction
In the fields, the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh lord, yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!
Now in darkness, world stops turning
Ashes where their bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing, spreads his wings
Oh lord, yeah!
Hello @michaeldietrich
I would like to start to write this comment a bit different than WOW but I can not! I have to say it one more time WOW !!!
The first impression is a Black Sabbath song brought here in a so friendly way! ;) You sing very well, rich in dynamics and bringing nice but powerful colour of the voice in the lower pitch. Although it is challenging and not an easy task to do acoustic covers, your guitar playing replaced the whole band, the rhythm section and the bass guitar and effects.
I like also the way how your wife organized the "scene". Creative!! (and I read her post now :D ) And the video edition is also friendly.
I laughed so much when you "prayed" with your hands and the guitar was playing on the recording hahaha, that was so funny.
I am glad I opened this post and listened three times to your recording.
Well done @michaeldietrich and @patschwork !
Thank you so much for appreciating my part as well :) And you're right, he made a great job!
You are very welcome :D Without your part, it would be just the music, wich is indeed very good. Now, it is an artwork made by a team! 🤗
Hey @mipiano! Wow, just wow! :) Thanks a lot for your great comment. This really made my week!

Hello michael! man i must say this is really awesome! as a long time Black Sabbath fan, i totally admire and enjoyed the "twist" you gave to this classic! the Ozzy style glasses were a nice plus i must say! :) the effects and camera work are equally very very nice so i cannot say more than a big: Congrats!. You have my upvote (if i could make it a bigger vote i would man, but i´m still a small bee on this hive ) and reblogged! im also following you now, i make you an invitation to my humble blog, so we can support each other, i love guitar and rock classics too, so i think we can get along! greetings, and once again, awesome job!
Hey Julio, thanks a lot for your kind words! It is always great to see that there are still people who like guitar and rock classics. Keep on rocking!
Btw at the end of the video i was thinking "Omg he can´t miss the last melodic riff of the song, actually my favorite part! :O" then you came up with that soft arpeggio version of it, very cool and unexpected, i also checked your wife´s post about the making of the video and it was very fun .... wish you both all success! greetings from Venezuela
Yeah, I also love that last riff - I think they ripped it off a bit in Heaven & Hell, which is also an awesome tune. 🤘 cheers!
