ALBUM REVIEW. Light The Torch - You Will Be The Death Of Me (2021)

in Music3 years ago

Those who follow the creativity and development of American metalists Light The Torch know that the band had to overcome many obstacles during the existence of the project. Most of the difficulties and uncertainties were due to the change in the composition. You may remember that for this reason, Devil You Know became known as Light The Torch.

Musicians come and go, but the very core of founding musicians Francesco Artusato and Howard Jones ensured the continued existence of the band. Today we will talk about the new studio recording "You Will Be the Death of Me", which I advise you to pay attention to.

If you are a fan of heavy music, then definitely remember that Howard Jones was the vocalist of Killswitch Engage. It was thanks to him that the group became mega popular and gained millions of fans all over the planet. In those days, Jones was one of the best metal vocalists for me. This was his finest hour. But in 2012, the musician had to leave the group and for a while forget about creativity.

Light The Torch's previous LP "Revival" was not accepted by many fans. Although what the group did before under a different name was one level lower. That is, the development was noticeable, as was the potential of the renewed roster. Despite the fact that the band played quite heavy music, the recording was not a work worthy of the level of the musicians that make up LTT. A fresh record is like a breath of air that the musicians themselves needed more than their fans.

I was somewhat skeptical about the audition. I was meticulous about almost every composition presented and, perhaps, did it in vain. Right now I am listening to this album and I understand that it is good, even though it has a certain simplicity in terms of musical design.

I think the thing that bothered me was the standard song structure. This has become too predictable in terms of song development, and in a way is a minor flaw in the recording. Despite this, Howard Jones is a master of his craft and has an amazing voice, mixing different vocal styles, which he always succeeded in. I would even say that it was on this recording that the vocalist showed everything he was capable of. His voice is not as tight as in the previous disc, and it is often heard how Howard simply outshines other musicians on the record, as if showing who really is the star in Light The Torch.

I don't want to highlight the songs included in the tracklist of the recording. In each, the listener will be able to find an interesting transition, riff, verse or chorus, which will then spin in his head for a day, or maybe a week. I listen and enjoy. Honestly, my opinion about this team has changed for the better. This is not our usual metalcore, not another Jones release, from which everyone knows what to expect. This is a distinctive alternative and modern work that you want to listen to again.
