Unfortunately, I have not had enough time to follow the release of new products in the rock world for a long time. Although… perhaps due to the lack of time, I have become more selective about the albums and groups that I add to my player.
Today I want to introduce you, dear readers, to the latest creation of the Swedish supergroup Soen, which was called "Imperial".
A full-length work was released in January 2021 and, in my humble opinion, marked a new stage in the development of the team.
If just a couple of years ago, when I mentioned the name Soen, a direct association with such monsters of progressive metal as Opeth and Tool popped up in my head, then after getting acquainted with the new album, I heard a completely different, “own” material. It was on "Imperial" that the musicians began to sound much more original, developed their own recognizable style and at the same time masterfully continued what they had begun.
Each album of these guys is quite a memorable event. Already from the first discs, the technicality of the presentation of the material, unusual structures of music and interesting verses were visible. Each member is a master of his craft, and with each song you fall in love with the voice of vocalist Joel Ekelof more and more. I am also glad that there are still complex musical patterns in the compositions, which I like in the genre itself in general. Although, I wouldn't classify Soen as one genre only.
Thanks to the work of mixing master Kane Charko, known for his collaborations with DISTURBED, HELLYEAH, PAPA ROACH, the sound on the record is heavier and slightly departs from Soen's usual discography. The skill of this dude is clearly audible.
Not only the "Imperial" studio itself, but all of Soen's work will, by definition, leave its mark on the music world. I am one hundred percent sure that these experienced and talented musicians will please us in the future with amazing releases. And you are invited to plunge into the world of Soen and get acquainted with his brainchild "Imperial" right now.
