Breve historia/ Brief History

Equinox es un standard de Jazz escrito por el saxofonista estadounidense John Coltrane en Junio de 1964. Coltrane siempre fue muy apegado al género blues y compuso este tema con un aura muy tranquila, oscura y relajada para recordar un poco a sus inicios, quien era él y sentirse un poco como en casa. Su esposa Naima fue la quien le coloco el nombre de Equinox (Equinoccio en español) un Equinoccio es un fenómeno natural que ocurre dos veces al año en donde la tierra no se acerca ni se aleja al sol, y John el 23 de septiembre de 1926 había nacido en un equinoccio. John ya había tocado este standard muchas veces en vivo antes de su grabación en 1960, la había tocado con la sección de metales de Miles Davis, pero en 1974 el sótano donde se encontraban las grabaciones del sello discográfico Atlantis se quemaron, se llevo dicha grabación.

Equinox is a jazz standard written by the American saxophonist John Coltrane in June 1964. Coltrane was always very attached to the blues genre and composed this song with a very quiet, dark and relaxed aura to remember his beginnings, who he was and feel a little bit at home. His wife Naima was the one who gave it the name Equinox (Equinox in Spanish) an Equinox is a natural phenomenon that occurs twice a year where the earth does not approach or move away from the sun, and John was born on September 23, 1926 on an equinox.

John had already played this standard many times live before its recording in 1960, he had played it with the brass section of Miles Davis, but in 1974 the basement where the recordings of the Atlantis record label were located burned down, and the recording was taken away.
