To keep it brief, today's #ttt blog I dedicate to the charming person and beautiful Russian woman: Jenia Lubich!
Jenia Lubich - Russian Girl
A very funny song that burst onto the Russian Internet more than a decade ago. I have long intended to introduce you, my readers, to this opus.
What's happening in the video: a girl wearing a fur hat with earflaps is detained during a customs inspection: "I am in a rush, I just have to pack my bag with cash, that flush, and it's certain to get back to my country, didn't know that it's forbidden, I'm sorry..."
The song contains a large percentage of humor; it was originally written by Zhenya Lubich as a parody of the stereotypes and cliches that the bearers of the Western European cultural code have in relation to Russians. Moreover, the song is also a parody of the "a la russe" style, the performance of the song itself is an attempt to ridicule the way modern European singers try to sing something on a Russian theme.
I am just a simple Russian girl,
I've got vodka in my blood.
So, I dance with brown bears,
And my soul is torn apart...
Now you know — it is common to forget about the law, when especially you love — it's like a tank, it can drive you mad so you can rob a bank.
Jokes about balalaika, vodka and bears have certainly become boring and don't seem funny (and yet they are still in use). But now they have been supplemented with jokes about Russian hackers and cash for bribes.
If you want to take the time to read the comments under this video on YouTube, you will see that the song has inspired dozens of people from different parts of Russia, as well as other countries (!) to write their own version of the chorus - to tell what flows in the girls' blood in their location, and what breaks their hearts. Reading these comments amused me for a long time.
Jenia Lubich, Petr Nalitch — Ivan, Boris et moi
I'm not a big fan of this kind of vocals and the "gentle", "watercolor" style of singing like Zhenya's - I prefer stronger female voices and more drama (for example, Tarja Turunen or Kovacs, to name a few names). But I can appreciate the masterpiece when I see it. The second song I selected to present you today, is the cover version of the great Marie Laforet hit from 1966.
Many have attempted to translate it into Russian - and none of existing versions seem successful to me. But this one may not be ideal and surely it cant be better than the original song - but still it is very good and I really liked it when I accidentally came across it. Hope that you will appreciate it too! Zhenya sings here a duet with another wonderful singer, Petr Nalich. Artistry cannot be hidden in a pocket!
Nouvelle Vague – La Crise Economique
Jenia Lubich is one of the artists behind the Nouvelle Vague project; vocals in this song belong to Jenia Lubich, obviously. The video is unofficial; I dont understand what the song is about (as it is in French), but the story video tells I understand pretty well; a nice and simple romantic story, told in the decorations of St.Petersburg - thats why I'd love to share it with you. You may see in this video how the famous 'white nights of St.Petersburg' look like - they are not exactly 'white', of course, and it may be pretty cold late at night!
Иво - С любовью ваш Эрих Мария
One more song, as a bonus: very beautiful little thingie I found the last week. The lyrics of the song are an imaginary monologue-letter written by Erich Maria Remarque to the Hollywood actress Marlene Dietrich. I really liked the theme of the song itself, the images added to it, the person of performer itself (Ivo is a completely new name to me), her voice timbre, her manner of performance.
I hope you enjoyed today's music selection, and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Jenia sounds like she has a great talent, I really loved the first 2 songs the most. The comments under the first video are quite amusing too. I guess the third song explains her French accent in the first song too!

I glad you liked it. Again, not my kind of stuff I like most, but this is a funny and amusing thing not to pass by, and I am happy I could educate overseas friends with this piece of humour... intresting brick of the cultural code. 😄

I visited her concert once, like, 8 years ago, someone pulled me there, in a small hall in some palace on Ile-de-Basil. I was told she had a bright future.
Good to see that they shot the story of "Nouvelle Vague – La Crise Economique" on Ile-de-Basil.
I may not always show my appreciation for music, but I listen to it every time I'm at my desk job. Today, I listened to all the tunes that you shared, and my favorite would be the 3rd one, Nouvelle Vague - "La Crise Economique," because of its melody and upbeat vibe. Note: I don't even understand the language, but I felt the tune :)
!PIZZA time 🍕
Sorry, somehow I missed and did not respond to your comment, shame on me. Thank you very much for stopping by and for choosing a favorite. I dont understand French too! but sometimes music can speak directly to the heart, and its fantastic. Btw, in this post I 1st time tried the comentrewarder service. Nice. !BEER and !PIZZA back.
No worries 👍 to be honest it happened to me also (a few times, 😅). The thing about CR is that there is a 3 day voting period until it sends a comment to post.
😦 Is it Tuesday already? I don't know what's happening to me with time...
;)
Thank you for introducing me to Jenia Lubich, even though I don't understand Russian, I can get the vibe of the songs and I also liked the way you presented them because now I know what they are about.
And this last one, the imaginary letter, I would really like to know what the song is about. I haven't read anything by this author, Erich Maria Remarque, but you've encouraged me to do some research on him. Thanks again.
До скорой встречи!
oh! oh! meh... you will be getting tonns of pleasure, thats for sure, well, if your requests are slightly above the ones of silent majority...
There is a bunch of novells in his back catalogue, all of the novels are great, but some might be of more intrest to you - check the wiki?
"All Quiet on the Western Front" is a story about WW1 and the "lost generation" (not long ago there was another film adaptation - bad). It is almost his number one book.
"Three Comrades" is a story about a poor man's hopeless love for a girl dying of tuberculosis, written in the 1920s.
"The Black Obelisk" again is a novel about the lost generation of 1920-es, about life in the post-war Weimar German Republic, it describes how people survived during the galloping inflation and hourly price increases. I am used to open and reread this novel every time the money inflation accelerates in my poor country.
... and all others as well. I wish you a pleasant acquaintance with this amazing writer! For me, Remarque is much, much better than Ernest Hemingway. 😘
🙌 Thank you.
No; I publish 'dated' blog that I could not write in time ;)))))
I provided some lyrics from the 1st song, intentionally.
😂
!PIZZA
I sometimes have vodka in my veins 😂
Haha! sometimes I had it in my veins too, but I am not used to it. To me, red wine is far better! and ofc !PIZZA 🙃
My favourite cocktail is the Bloody Mary. 😁
Oh! you are a strong woman, then. 😉 My fave, I guess, is a mix of vermouth / white wine / juice, - have no idea about the name of such cocktail.

I like Jenia's voice, that first song was great. I didn't understand since I don't speak the language, but I appreciate the music. I don't speak French either but the third one was good too. You always find some great tunes, they always make me wish I understood Russian!
Grazie! thank you! Spasibo! Origato! (a brief lesson of mutual communication, haha).
Music is the international one, I believe so. The language of !PIZZA is what I like too. Happy you enjoyed my late selection. 😍 I wanted to publish it the last week, but caught a flu and couldn't bring myself to write a post...
