New Tunes 14.3.2025

in Music7 days ago

Hello music friends! 🎶

Rainy and windy Friday here. But the selection of fresh music, too!
Lesser-known musicians not (yet) supported by the global music labels machinery are constantly creating in the hope that their voices will reach as far as possible. They may even succeed. You won't know until you hear.

#newtunes, for the weekend and beyond!

Eight songs in different genres, something for almost everyone. If you have a few minutes, you can support the artists by listening. Every listening counts; we already know that, don't we?
If you don't like something, skip it.

REPLICANT - WHY

Replicant is an international project, a trio based in Paris, France. I came across them while listening to the leader, a young guitarist and composer, Primož Sukič. He used to have a band in Slovenia called Walter Flego, which attracted the interest of the local public. He is now a PhD student in performance and composition at the CalArts Institute in California.
Together with Australian saxophonist Joshua Hyden, French percussionist, electrophonic, and DJ Benjamin Soistier, they released their second album, Cloud Line. They create an electro vibe with guitars and saxophones, electronic sound modulations, and repetitive rhythmic patterns. They make a floating sound field of contrasts of the contemporary world, constantly foregrounding free-jazz improvisation or tremendous ambient industrial. I will continue to follow them.

Ghais Guevara - The Old Guard Is Dead

Philadelphia's Ghais Guevara is known in the hip-hop and rap music underground as a hard-edged, rude spitting for both American conservatives and liberals. He has been performing and protesting since 2019 and has released three albums. His latest, Goyard Ibn Said, released at the end of January, features his alter ego. Despite this, he does not adhere to the ascetic principles of the Islamic faith, but embraces decadence and materialism. The dichotomy in the texts between the old ideals of comrade Ghais Guevara and the greed of the upstart Goyard Ibn Said is everywhere, probably deliberate. Even Kendrick Lamar used the song The Old Guard is Dead to open his Super Bowl performance.
For rap fans, this will undoubtedly be interesting.

Gazorpazorp - Mahovina

Gazorpazorp is a band from Belgrade, Serbia. They have been performing since 2018 and have released two EPs and one album, Niz Reku (Down The River), at the end of February. The post-punk quartet creates colorful impressions and nostalgic shoegaze metaphors from the alternative 90s with harmonized and soft guitar combinations, multi-voiced singing, and poetic melodics of intimate states. The title of the song - Mahovina - means moss.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Antimatter - Angelic

Mick Moss is an English singer from London and the frontman of Antimatter, which has been playing dark and gothic rock since 1997. He recently released Parallel Matter, a compilation of live and unreleased recordings with newly remastered older recordings. The music is excellently produced, instrumentally luxurious, and melodically melancholic in a gothic style. The song Angelic is from 1997, so from the beginning of their career, I like it much better in its new incarnation than the first minimalist version.
I recommend it to all new dark and gothic fans, and I'm sure older fans will enjoy it, too.

Ivan Grobenski - Houdini

Ivan Grobenski is a Croatian singer-songwriter who has been on the music scene since 2010. His work has ranged from his collaboration with the experimental rock band Moskau to solo albums inspired by traditional music from the Sub-Ravian region to his acclaimed indie/blues/soul experiments that have attracted attention outside Croatia.
ELECTRAW Session is his latest album, a return to an organic sound recorded in concert without electronics, samples, or studio editing. It has a raw and harsh concert sound but is still very melodic. Highly recommended.

James Brandon Lewis Trio - Remember Brooklyn & Moki

James Brandon Lewis is an American saxophonist and composer from New York. He has been active musically since 2010 and came to critical attention in 2022 when his album Jesup Wagon was named DownBeat's Jazz Album of the Year. He has released 12 solo albums to date. Apple Core is his latest album, released in February. It's a jazz improvisation and ambient exploration of sonic textures that doesn't sound boring but interesting and coherent.

KaliKamo - Zemljotrens

Kalikamo is a new Croatian band from Zagreb. It was formed at the end of 2023 with the break-up (or merger?) of MC Kali Fat Dub and multi-instrumentalist duo Kudikamo. With their debut album Jedinstvo (Unity in English), released at the end of February, they are making waves in regional clubs. They're already a contender for album of the year in some charts.
It has tremendous energy and a remarkable soundscape, a mix of rap, dub, and electro-beat rhythms combined with clear and direct vocals and lyrics that perfectly describe the current state of mind of our confused and suffering people in the region and beyond. I hope to catch them live somewhere.

Kerala Dust - Bell

Kerala Dust is a London band formed in 2016. They record mainly in Berlin, Germany, and tour Europe. They have released two EPs and three albums, the latest Violet Drive, released in February 2023. Their synth-pop guitars have many influences, from Talking Heads to Lou Reed and Tom Waits. They have rhythmic, groovy beats and hedonism in all its glory.
I've been following them for a few years now.
The song Bell was released last week as a new single; I don't know whether an album will follow.

🎶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

Sort:

I've finally found the time to name my favourites. KeralaDust and KaliKamo are way out in front. They are followed by Brandon Lewis, who could have given his interpretations of the theme more “free room”.

It's nice of you to stop by. It's been raining and flooding here for over a week now, so there's nothing to do outside, but there's more music. I was surprised by these KaliKamo. Two weeks ago, they presented their debut album in Rijeka. Now, they won't be around for a while.

Ker smo prišli do faze notranjih del pri gradnji novega kokošnjaka, napredka ne more ustaviti niti nenehno deževje.😉
Kljub temu je dež velika nadloga, saj moram nujno obrezati sadno drevje in trto.

oh antimatter - Angelic is perfect one
I think it is so underrated

Angel cried last night 🎷
It was something in her dreams 🎵

Yes, it's underrated, I think so.

Excellent tunes here!

Thank you. I love to share music! 😎

My top choice from this selection: Kerala Dust. Love the groove and I'm a fan of minimalistic sounds that manage to deliver emotions. Also this song reminds me of Oh La La by Goldfrapp, mixed with Franz Ferdinand. Gosh I love that song!
