Hello music friends! πΆ
Well-known and lesser-known musicians try to surprise us with their latest songs. Something from this selection may be a global hit, but we will never know until we hear it.It's Friday, and here is a selection of fresh music, #newtunes, for the weekend and beyond!
There are eight songs in different genres, something for almost everyone. If you have a few minutes, you can support the artists just by listening. Every vote counts; we already know that don't we?
If you don't like something, skip it.

Billy Idol - Still Dancing
Billy Idol, the old man of glam punk, has been in music since 1976. He is the singer of Generation X and the author of several global hits. This time, he is dancing again. He is announcing his ninth album, Dream Into It, which will be released in April.
Nothing particularly new; the melodic rock guitars and catchy riffs continue.
The Murder Capital - The Fall
The Murder Capital is an Irish post-punk band from Dublin. They have released a couple of EPs and two albums, the latest Blindless. I mentioned them once before here about a year ago. They've supported Nick Cave at gigs around Europe lately, and I believe for good reason.
The song The Fall is a continuation of their specific post-punk guitar sound.
The Smile - Don't Get Me Started (James Holden Remix)
I have mentioned Thom Yorke and his hyperactive music-making, especially with The Smile, in the last few years.
Here's the EP Don't Get Me Started/Instant Palm Remixes, which will be released at the end of March. The band collaborates with electronic music masters James Holden and Robert Stillman, who have transformed their older releases into spectral and intense but soothing, humming melodies.
Morcheeba - We Live And Die
Morcheeba, an English electronic band active for almost three decades, will release its new 11th studio album, Escape The Chaos, at the end of May.
The song "We Live And Die" is the second single from the new album. It's hypnotic and cathartic - I wouldn't say meditative - but it quickly goes to the ears.
SCOUR - Coin
Scour is an American band that has been playing for over a decade. After three EPs, they finally released their first album, Gold. The singer is Phil Anselmo, known from Pantera and Down. The music, or the black metal they play, combines all these influences.
The hellish and brutal thunder of all the instruments and the vocals with screams and growls in the lyrics let us know that they are dealing with Satanism, apocalyptic themes, evil, and hell monsters from cult horror movies.
Damon Locks - Distance
Damon Locks is an American poet, composer, musician, and activist from Chicago. He has been making music since the 1980s. In addition to music, his visual work or design for albums released by International Anthem is also worth mentioning.
On his latest album, List of Demands, released at the end of January, he fuses his activism with avant-garde hip-hop and jazz collages, through which he delivers his razor-sharp messages.
Straw Man Army - Spiral
Straw Man Army is a duo from New York, USA. They have been performing since 2020 and have released three albums, most recently Earthwork, at the end of November last year. On their first album, they dealt with the past of colonial history in the US, and on the second, they dealt with the then-present collective trauma of the pandemic and anxiety. Bandcamp (and reportedly The Washington Post) included the album in their list of the best albums of 2022.
The third album deals with the future, the consequences of global warming, and the misguided politics of the West. The lyrics are poetic but offer no solution except change. Well, they got it, but again, whether they expected it.
Musically, it fits into the melodic anarcho-punk of the late seventies, which catharsis with angry screams.
Arika & The Amoebas - F the Algo
Arika & The Amoebas is not a band but a project of Eric Wayne, who defines himself as an artist, critic, teacher, philosopher, and madman.
Of course, this came to me on YouTube with an algorithm. Other videos by Arika and The Amoebas pop up on the side when you listen. Although AI-generated musically and visually, they are stunning.
And, curious as I am, especially as I explore the discrete interweaving of AI into all areas of human endeavor, I think that Eric Wayne will be one of the people who define this art form (many will disagree that it's art, but I don't care) in the near/far future.
Otherwise, here is a summary of his quote:
I make new and original images for the collective imagination. It's a core thing art is about: expanding the horizons of the imagination and unraveling the borders of consciousness.
πΆThat's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

At the moment, there is a small dispute between my ears and the system in my head that processes the lyrics. The three candidates under discussion have a certain musical affinity. Arika & The Amoebas emerge as the winner for the lyrics delivered, while The Smile is marginally ahead instrumentally. Unlucky for Straw Man Army, who are slightly overshadowed in this competition.
Damon Locks won't be running out of lyrics any time soon, as I realise we're doing more to increase the distance than decrease it.
It is as if time has stood still. Have they taken Billy Idol out of the freezer?
Arika & The Amoebas is the first known artistic AI Agent (here we usually call them bots π)
Yes, you're accurate about Billy Idol. I have him just in case here π, to fill the number.
