Greentea Peng - One Foot
Greentea Peng, the Londoner, composer, and singer I've mentioned several times over the last year, has a new single, One Foot, which has been out since Monday. The Neosoul, or psychedelic R'n'B singer as she calls herself, has released one studio album in 2021, and since then, she's been releasing singles like a conveyor belt, some 19 so far. Fans will be delighted.
Shabaka - Timepieces ft. Billy Woods
Shabaka Hutchins, another Londoner, composer, and jazz musician, represents contemporary English jazz. He also incorporates other musical genres, such as acid, house, hip-hop, and drum' n bass, and is active in various bands.
He is best known to me for his work with the band The Comet Is Coming, which I saw live. Today, he released a new EP, Possession, on which he collaborates with Billy Woods.
Music with a capital letter.
The Velveteers - Suck The Cherry (honeymoon video)
The Velveteers are a rock 'n'roll trio from Boulder, Colorado, that has been performing for a decade. Until 2020, they tortured audiences and themselves with their original sound and didn't go anywhere until Dan Aurebach (Black Keys) listened to them and polished them up to make them listenable to a wider audience. Their music is primal rock 'n'roll, with guitar riffs, rattling percussion, and vocals.
The song Suck The Cherry is a preview of the new album A Million Knives, which will be released in February next year.
Nils Frahm - Re (Paris)
Nils Frahm is a German composer, musician, and producer from Berlin. He is best known for his improvisations on classical music, incorporating electronic elements. He has released sixteen albums to date, the most recent, Paris, was recorded at the Paris Philharmonic and released today.
Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory - Southern Life (What It Must Be Like)
Sharon Van Etten is an American musician and actress who has been performing since 2007. She has released six albums and won several awards as an indie-rock musician. She has been working with the band The Attachment Theory for the last two years, and they are announcing an album of the same name for February next year. The song Southern Life is from this album.
Buñuel - Drug Burn
Buñuel is an American-Italian alliance, a noise-power-rock outfit that works from both sides of the Atlantic and sees no problem with that on the stage.
American singer Eugene S. Robinson, who is also an editor, journalist, and more, has been going strong for a few years now. Together with the Italian power trio, the third album, Mansuetude, is a unique follow-up to the previous two.
The singer's neurotic vocals, combined with guitar distortion and jolting atmospheric changes, create a noisy, nihilistic, and manic atmosphere into which the listener is easily drawn. I recommend the whole album.
Tori Amos - Cornflake Girl
The American composer, poet, and pianist released her third live album, Deep Dive Live, officially today. This is a recording of one of her earlier hits from 1994. It has excellent production and a timeless sound that deserves a mention.
Čao Portorož - Zorane
Finally, let's turn to the domestic scene. Čao Portorož is an indie post-punk trio from Ljubljana, Slovenia that has been a fixture on the Slovenian alternative music scene for about a decade. At that time, they released four studio albums, the latest of which was Design last week. The distinct guitar melodicism backed by synth-pop lines in all the tracks creates a sonic picture of the 1980s when there were quite a few bands like this in the former Yugoslavia.
Retro in a positive sense. I had the opportunity to record them this summer, the song Vojska. I hope 3spk.tv will be up and running again. It's not looking so good at the moment, but I can't get it to post on YouTube.
🎶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!
