Maybe my sloppy demo will change the world

It is possible to both love your own work and to think it’s far from your best. The limits of what you are capable are never to be reached. We always know we can do better.
I actually think that’s the healthiest place for the artist to reside. A glass of wine (or chocolate milk) in one hand and a sledgehammer in the other…

I am in the constant process of sculpting, and sometimes I only have a few tools on me and only so long before my attention moves to the next thing.

I used to put off art because I knew my skills weren’t anywhere close to where I wanted them to be, and the weight of knowing that crushed me.

Now I am forever a work in progress, and how is that any different from life?

I used to think my goal behind writing music or stories was to create the most perfect work that I could manage to create.
Now my goal is to grow through the process of making things, and just share what I think maybe someone will like.

Who knows? To someone else, my sloppily recorded junk could be perfection. Sometimes I look at other peoples trash and say “DAMN! I want some of that!”

I listened to Neutral Milk Hotel’s from the Aeroplane Over the Sea at least 100 times, never once bothered by the fact that almost every song is 4 chords. Tom Waits voice sounds like cigarettes and I was thoroughly addicted to him for years. My favorite Youtuber, Sabbatical, films with his smartphone and hardly edits.

So yes, maybe my demos will change the world. Maybe my lo-fi, sloppily put together videos will inspire someone to live a more exciting life. Maybe my novel series will be turned into a video game series.

Either way, I had fun making all of them, and I grew as a result of them, and they may not be my very best, but they are absolutely the best I could have done at the time I was working on them.

I just released my second video.

It was an attempt to level up my editing, with various scenes and effects and moods and a real story. I wanted to pay tribute to my days travelling in 2012-2016, a time where i have almost no footage from, and tell the story of how I got to where I am.

The song is called Mirror after all, and it’s about how the outer world is a reflection of the inner world, and so I pay thanks to everything that life has shown me.

I had 1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins muisc video in mind while i was editing. Sadly there was no footage of me breaking the law, but maybe thats for the better.

The video documents the ebb and flow of the last 10 years of my life. I tried to include as much emotion as I could, which was challenging considering how little I documented my life during the 2010’s and even more recently.

Looking forward to see what this mirror is going to show me next
