Three Tune Friday : Ugly Tunes

Isn't it great when a developer comes up with something useful for you, at just the right time?

'Downloader Tool' gets all your past HIVE (and STEEM) posts fast, and from day one in a rudimentary .md format. This is perfect for me and my shit memory, as I can't remember what songs I posted 6 years ago.@sn0n's

In the past, I have reposted material, albeit by mistake and written differently than the previous version, but no more. I suggest bookmarking this link for your own use.

Download all the files, and if you are on Windows, get yourself a copy of 'Effective File Search' then easily sift through the .md files with a custom search.

Having recently run dry of autobiographies to listen to in the car, it was back to music again and mostly bands I am accustomed to.

It is good to listen to an album you haven't visited for years and it brings memories back, to what you were doing when you first discovered the songs.

Biffy Clyro – Strung to your Ribcage (Infinity Land – 2004)

smal_16642illustrationofanelectricguitarpv.jpg

I have mentioned before about seeing this Scottish band live in 2012 and that I was somewhat disappointed. They played all their new material and that is not what I came to hear.

Mountains' was going to be the final song of the encore. Rather than get crushed by the stampede I would prefer to miss this boring, mundane, pile of shit song and get out fast.@bingbabe and I quickly exited the Manchester Arena knowing, '

This incidentally is the same arena that would host a terrorist bombing in 2017 resulting in many lost lives. It's large and not at all intimate inside. Arianna Grande was performing that evening and it was full of teeny-boppers.

Biffy Clyro sold out, and I don't blame them, they want fame and money. Anything after 'Infinity Land' sucks arse and I can only thank them for making some decent music before the money train got their attention.

'Strung to your Ribcage' is one of those Simon Neal screamers that totally changes after about thirty seconds, contains lots of bad language, evolves, and has a great sing-a-long ending.

Siouxsie & The Banshees – Fireworks (Single – 1982)

smal_16642illustrationofanelectricguitarpv.jpg

I have posted 'Siouxsie & The Banshees' material before; in fact, I remember my first 'mini' @curie (before I was part of the team) came from a music post about the band. It was exciting then to be recognized, as they were very choosy about who got their vote.

The post netted me just over $5, but it got their attention, and from there, things just got better. When I was younger, and not into all this 'weird shit' you read about from me now, I was still a fan of this band.

I suppose it did me well when I decided to jettison all my 7' 45 singles in 2005 on eBay. The buyer saw all the pictures and gateway covers from this band and that made the purchase so much more appealing.

Then, punk (it's not punk) vinyl was in demand and sold at a premium if you can call it that. Now it's probably magnified, someone tell me otherwise?

'Fireworks' was one of those fancy gateway covers, only available for a limited time. After that, you had to make do with a shit cover, and I grabbed the special one first.

Like most of the band's singles, it did not fare well in the UK charts, hitting #22 in 1982. It was gothic, dark and broody and this was before 'Goth' became a thing in the mid '80s.

The Stranglers – Ugly (Rattus Norvegicus – 1977)

smal_16642illustrationofanelectricguitarpv.jpg

While we are on the subject of 'Punk', or that so-called genre depending on opinion, I was a fan of 'The Stranglers' when young, that is before 'Golden Brown' turned up and they went all mellow.

'Rattus Norvegicus' was a loud, angry debut album full with subjects such as sewers rats and ugly people.

'Ugly' was a track I remember well due to the explicit and downright ridiculous lyrics, though @bingbabe would probably agree with Hugh Cornwell and the lads.

She seems to think that the rich people of The Philippines are better looking. What a load of crap I tell her!

…'It's only the children of the fucking wealthy who turn out to be good-looking'… - Jean-Jacques Burnel

I am not having any of that, my wife was not wealthy and is wonderful looking. I can't say otherwise, can I?

But getting back to the song, I can't help liking something as audacious as this.

…' And if you've got acne, well, I apologise for disliking you intensely'.. - Jean-Jacques Burnel

They don't make shit like this anymore, and if someone did, it would be banned.

I am going to use that tool!!

My band supported Biffy on STV once before they properly sold out. Fun times!

Wow,wow, wow mate.., their early stuff was great..., though they tried their best to sound like Nirvana on the debut. Did you get a chance to say hello to them, how were they?

They sounded very nirvana back then!

Aye we chatted a wee bit in rehearsal, the singer was alright but didn't get much out of the other two. Seemed quite down to earth at the time

I would have loved to see them in those days, before they became bland.

They were ridiculously heavy. I remember I couldn't figure them out but I did like them. Then I didn't hear of them for a while and when I did they had sold out big time. I still don't totally mind them but wouldn't go so far as to like them now

ridiculously heavy... that's a good term!

I tried, the music--think I'm the wrong generation :))

I loved this line,though

am not having any of that, my wife was not wealthy and is wonderful looking. I can't say otherwise, can I?

Also the link for downloading past posts will come in handy.

They are mostly old tunes, but I know... not for everyone.

No comment about the music LOL.
Have a great weekend!I was sifting through old #ttt posts trying to find which artists I've shared, so this is going to be a great help, thank you @slobberchops!

No comment about the music LOL.

LOL, my tastes are strange... I know. I do try and add a personal touch, so there's something else besides the weird music 😀

Thankful that you shared that (not the music😂) have been sifting through decades of paperwork the past couple of days but will get to it, going to be a huge time saver. Also won't embarrass myself by writing about the same topic twice🙈

I have taken off my Hive/Steemit base. 4K and more posts. 15mb.
But is that search tool safe? Does it work on Win11?

By the way, The Stranglers are one of my favorite bands. I was at their first concert in Ljubljana 1in 978. Later I read an interview with J.J. Bournel he did after that concert for the leading YU rock magazine. He was really a very sharp, rude, and arrogant guy. Ha, ha. Here's the Serbian language JPG if you want to read the details.

From Rattus Norvegicus I like this song the best

But is that search tool safe? Does it work on Win11?

Safe?, well there's no keys in involved, it's just reading data so no harm can come to your account. It's a browser app, OS is not relevant.

Hanging Around is great, as is Down in the Sewers,... lots of Coca Cola cans.... heh...., what a great album that was. 😀

I mean this second tool, which searches in localdb, EffectiveFileSearch.

Well it works on Windows 10, so I think so. I have been using it for years.

Look at you having to be all different and stuff. That is a pretty cool too. I forget what I have shared as well. I am going to have to check it out in the future.

Try that download tool, it will save you from duplicating content. I know I have several times, and am aware. We can't expect to remember things from years ago, can we?

No, we really can't and quite honestly, since nobody really reads this stuff anyway, they probably don't remember either!

since nobody really reads this stuff anyway

True, I do listen to your tunes, only sometimes. Depends if I am WFH, or not.

I understand :)

This is a great Three Tune Friday post!I love the mix of bands and the stories you share about them. It's interesting to hear your perspective on Biffy Clyro's evolution and how you feel about their later work.I'm also a big fan of Siouxsie & The Banshees, and I remember those "gateway" covers too!And "Ugly" by The Stranglers is a classic,it's definitely a song that sticks with you. Thanks for sharing your musical journey!

I'm also a big fan of Siouxsie & The Banshees

You are? The last time I was in Manila it was all boy bands and sloppy music, at least wherever I went and heard in public. I a surprised they have a following in South-East Asia.

You'd be surprised!Siouxsie and the Banshees have a dedicated fanbase worldwide, including Southeast Asia.Musical tastes are diverse, and Manila's music scene is far richer than just boy bands. There's a lot of great underground and independent music to discover.

And if you've got acne, well, I apologise for disliking you intensely

In the internet cancel movement era this would be so outrageous 😂

Kids following some green haired guy with his face tattooed on tiktok and think he's a punk, talking how he feels being out of the system. It makes me laugh... or cry 😑

Viva the ugly tunes! I've always been fascinated by them. Strange, out of ordinary, therefore always interesting to me.

Yes, I tend to veer toward the unconventional now, and when younger also did, mixed in with the mainstream. The mainstream of today, I can't gel with, nothing sounds special, though I do give it a go from time to time.

”2611 items” You’re welcome blockchain 😂😅 Thanks for sharing this, it’s actually super useful, though I’m not sure if I really want to look through my old bullshit.

I did re-hive the original post, it's useful for dredging up your old stuff. Welcome back, I thought you'd left.

I would have needed that tool countless of times when trying to find some old post of mine to link to or find a picture. Well I took a break but I am here now, for how long though, I don’t know.

wow.. thats quite the haidoo on the banshees. :P all good jams! rock on! 😎🤘🎶🎶

Ouuuuuuu
