I can't remember how I first came across this song but its one I keep coming back to. It's a unique one for the group Club Kuru and this album Giving In . Usually it's a bigger, topical, dreamy psych-rock sound. At the end of the album comes Disappear, a softer acoustic track with a fascinating arrangement behind it.
Giving in was released by Dog Holiday Records on March 23, 2018
The vocals play out in a duet, with the chorus sung by one vocalist and the verses by the other. It speaks to me about a relationship. One person calling out in the choruses:
"Come and rest your head on me
All you have might disappear"
Maybe a gentle reminder not to take time together for granted? While the other voice seems patient but unsure.
"My ear to the door
I know I come uninvited
So I lie on the floor
With the voice still inside me"
(I did some digging but couldn't find information on who the guest vocalist was 🤔 )
There's so much creativity in the arrangement and production of this song. With only three stable elements, the two voices and acoustic guitar, it could have been a simple folk style production but the textural layers and soundscape make it special.
In the opening we get phones rings, synths and vocals run backwards to set the stage. The tone of the vocals is maybe what stands out the most for me. They have a raw emotion to them I love. You can really feel the 'humanity' of the singers. The Bassy cello sound is also a nice touch. I've looked to this song a lot as an example of how immersive some subtle elements and layers can make a simple arrangement.
As always, thanks for reading. Cheers to the Hive community and creators, lets keeping making something awesome.
