The Passing Of A Great Irish Warrior - Sinead O Connor

in Musiclast year

What to say really. Sinead is an icon. A true warrior, who was never afraid to speak her mind. She didn't care who she upset, she just had to share her truth. She was hugely passionate, about using her voice to bring about change.

RIP Sinead

She was also a tortured soul, who suffered greatly, but that only fueled her creativity and passion for justice.
I grew up admiring her greatly. Her voice, her voice took you to another time and place. Where it was just you and Sinead and you would feel every word she sang.

I got to see her live once, she was heavily pregnant at the time her voice soared, her presence boomed I was in awe at this Goddess on Stage in front of me. She was carrying her son Shane, her son that committed suicide last year at the age of 17. Something a mother can never get over.

She was fearless. Ripping up a picture of the Pope, in protest of all the child abuse cases within the catholic church, that the Vatican tried so hard to cover up. Children sexually abused, sold, and killed. She spoke out, when hardly anyone else did. She was a voice for those children. Using her fame to spread awareness.

Sinead, alone on a stage with her acoustic guitar. Mesmerising the huge crowd, with the sheer force of her presence and her voice. Sharing her heartbreak with the crowd, roaring her pain away. Inspiring us all to do the same. As a teenager watching, this woman, witnessing her power, it blew me away. (It still does) The anger, seeing her express that anger so openly, wow that was something else. This was such a raw performance one of my favourites, of hers.

I love the traditional music of my homeland. So many of the songs, hold so much pain, which really is a true reflection of our history. You really need to be able to connect with that pain, to do these songs justice and that is something Sinead does so well. This is one of my favourites, "She Moved Through The Fair". It's one I've been singing myself lately. No one sings it quite like our Sinead though!

Sinead led a very public life unapologetically so. She followed her heart, she lived her life, how she wanted to. Sharing her break downs with us all, alongside her most creative moments. She followed many faiths, as she tried to make sense of life itself, like she really needed to taste it all, so she could understand it more. Such a warrior. I have a huge amount of respect for her.
This song is another favourite of mine.

Thank you Sinead for showing me how strong a woman can be, whilst also being vulnerable. Thank you for showing me how important it is to speak the truth, even when everyone else around you turns the other way. Thank you for using your voice, for being fearless, for being a true warrior. Thank you for sharing your gift with us, your music has inspired so many. Thank you, for always being true to who you are.

Safe travels. What a shock. I had the good fortune of reading her autobiography just a few months ago, and it really gave this wonderful woman a whole new level. To go through all that, and to still be able to function, let alone put out so much light and grace into the world. What a sad loss indeed. <3
(beautiful tribute, my dear)

I'd love to read it.

Thank you,
I'm still in shock to be honest. She was a voice for so many of us that suffered in silence. We felt her pain and lifted some of the weight if ours xxxz

A sad day indeed! I saw her in the Olympic Ballroom in 1988 and she was mesmerising. Troy is one of my all-time favourites and her version of Irish ways and Irish laws is a track that never fails to move me.

Wow 1988.
That performance of Troy up above, that to me is hands down a perfect performance.
It's just so sad. We've lost a warrior. One of last of Ireland xxx

Shocking news. I still can’t quite believe it. Ní bheidh a leithéad ann arís. ❤️🙏

Yeah, it's really hard to accept isn't it. Just so sad xxxx

Beautiful words. So lucky of you to have seen her live.

Thank you @ladyrebecca, I do feel lucky xxxx

There is nothing that I can add - this is a great tribute to a unique lady.
I lived in New York when Sinead caused the uproar on SNL when she ripped up the pope's photo.
Really sad that she is gone.

Wow what a time to live there.
It's crazy how much she got ridiculed for that. That was such an important part in history, I mean how brave she was to do that. So very brave xxxx

She was stunning in the early days, when the grass was more green and the water more blue, and the sun more bright. Or maybe we just dont remember that days well? !DHEDGE

Yeah she was stunning.
Yes when the days themselves, were more real xxx

I immediately thought of you reading this. A fearless Irish woman who spoke her mind and spoke out against the fucking church. And the music. She had quite the life.

Yeah, she was fearless back then and she got ridiculed so badly. Yet she continued to speak out. She's been a big influence on me growing up. Seeing a woman so in her power. Using her voice, when women n girls were expected to be silent. I've so much respect for her. xx

Me too, and with her childhood trauma as well. Honestly woman like that deserve respect. I really loved what Kris Kristofferson wrote about her.

No wonder we also need an army of fearless Sinead O Connors within the Hive blockchain to speak their minds full of truth spreading awareness about what should never happen in this world nor anywhere else for that matter!
