Now on with The Hooters
They started when I heard them as so called "independent" band - i did not understand what that means - thought someting negative :-) - but probably was because they had no major lable contract or so. The music was cool - not my typical style but i enjoyed their songs before and when they became famous and had charts success. Band was founded in 1980, the breakthrough globally happened as of their performance during the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia (watch Chevy Chase):
Some more background about The Hooters
They started in their home town Philadelphia with a style combining Folk Rock and Rock including Reggae and Ska elements - mainly playing local clubs. After a frist split, they started again 1985 and their appearance at Live Aid in their home town made a mark to financiall success - the became mainstream - became known internationally - split (the usual madness) had a comeback but still are kind of active with different teams if i may say so.
The original founders Eric Bazilian und Rob Hyman still tour Europe and more - they often call themselves not "The Hooters" anymore but "Eric Bazilian & Rob Hyman of The Hooters" -strange but what can I say. The music stayed, they are still pretty cool and active. Interestingly they had more success across Europe since the 1990ies when success in the US declined a bit.

The Hooters – eine Band, die über Jahre hinweg die Charts prägte und auf Festen sowie Partys nicht wegzudenken war. Johnny B. und 500 Miles sind absolute Klassiker und zählen zu meinen Favoriten. Hast du dich schon einmal mit den Hintergründen dieser Songs beschäftigt? Auf jeden Fall spannend – sie haben bei uns schon viele Diskussionen ausgelöst. Zeitlose Musik, die immer wieder begeistert!
Für mich noch immer "All You Zombies" das Brett - ich war nie Hardcore Fan und muss gestehen textlich nicht damit auseinandergesetzt - ich bin eher einer, der Music ohne Voice / Texte geniesst ehrlich gesagt. Sozialkritisch und so nicht mein Ding, daher mochte ich BAP - geile Musik aber hab Text wg Dialekt meist nicht verstanden (natürlich nicht ignoriert, waren schon wichtige Themen, aber music für mich ist Spass, Fun - Probleme diskutuere ich daheim und im Job genug, wenn es um Politik geht bin ich raus - ich sag einmal was ich denke aber das war es dann).
Fand aber die Stories around Bob Geldof und Cyndi Lauper extrem spannend :-)
Normalerweise beschäftige ich mich auch weniger mit Texten. Ich genieße eher die Klänge und Töne. Aber es gab eine Zeit, in der sich mein Freundeskreis stark veränderte – einer zog in die Ferne, ein anderer rutschte ab. Und plötzlich nahmen unsere Mädels die Songtexte auseinander, da blieb man irgendwie nicht unbeteiligt. Politik sehe ich genauso wie du – die Diskussionen darüber gibt’s schon genug im Alltag.

These songs are so cool man, I think the reason I haven't listened to any of them is because they were popular before I was born. But I still like the classics because they're easy on the head and you can understand the lyrics.
