And rooted in the tradition of the Gullah Geechees.
No wonder, when the majority of the band are from South Carolina and their ancestors did not make the journey from Africa to North America by choice.
Ranky Tanky got together in Charleston, where the African-American Gullah culture is still cultivated. It is largely reflected in the attempt to preserve the traditions of the former homeland.

Ranky Tanky fanden sich zusammen in Charleston, wo die afroamerikanische Gullah-Kultur bis heute aufrechterhalten wird. Sie spiegelt sich im Großen und Ganzen darin wider, dass man versucht, die Traditionen der ehemaligen Heimat zu bewahren.
Ranky Tanky are vocalist (with all other members on mic) Quiana Parler, guitarist Clay Ross, trumpeter Charlton Singleton, bassist Kevin Hamilton and drummer Quinton Baxter. Their musical collaboration began in 2016, and their eponymous debut album was released in 2017 and immediately established itself at the top of the US jazz charts.
Ranky Tanky, das sind die Vokalistin (wobei alle anderen Bandmitglieder auch ans Mikrofon dürfen) Quiana Parler, der Gitarrist Clay Ross, der Trompeter Charlton Singleton, Bassist Kevin Hamilton und dem Schlagzeuger Quinton Baxter. Das gemeinsame, musikalische Miteinander nahm seinen Anfang 2016. Das gleichnamige Debütalbum erschien 2017 und etablierte sich sofort in der Spitze der US-Jazz-Charts.
"Good Time", Ranky Tanky's second album, was nominated for a Grammy Award, as was the subsequent album "Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival" from 2022. The highest musical award followed immediately with the honour of best "roots music album" of the year.

Singleton, Hamilton and Baxter used to play together in a jazz group called Gradual Lean. Then one day Clay Ross had the idea of mixing the traditional sound of Gullah songs with jazz and blues. But in order to make this happen, he needed a singer who was no stranger to the old traditions.

This was found in Quiana Parler, who had previously taken part in one of these inflationary casting shows and had been touring the country performing cover songs rather badly than well. Apparently it didn't take much persuasion to get the talented singer to join the Ranky Tanky team.

Welch ein Glück, dass man Quiana Parler bei einer Casting Show gefunden wurde und die Band damit Ihrem Ziel Jazz und Blues ein Stück weit zu vereinen näher gekommen ist!. Eine berauschende Stimme!
