For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.
This Midnight Gems session started as all good sessions start, from this one song that triggers the next, and before you know it you are tripping in a YouTube loop.
It started with a comment containing the word Wunderbar, and that triggered a song. A song from ´81 with a video that actually made me smile. And I was wondering if these guys made any other crazy songs...I ran into this next one.
This sh!t is weird, this stuff looks funny. Like Monty Python meets Sex Pistols. But dear reader this is our trip so you be the funny judge.
1. Tenpole Tudor - Swords Of A Thousand Men
As said it triggered a great loop, I took some out and combined that with what I thought fitted well. But I am probably not saving the best for last, because this song made me lol so hard. Here you have it, the proof that a great hit only needs four chords.
Still smiling while I am writing this btw.
2. Axis of Awesome - 4 Four Chord Song
Okay, now I will try to be serious for a bit because not all hits are based on four chords.... or are they? Let´s look at the evolution of music and see if four-chord hits are just a temporary thing.
3. Pentatonix - Evolution of Music
Hell, Why So serious? Life is too short not to have a good laugh or a bad marriage. And a bad marriage would definitely start with an Inappropriate Wedding Song. Go ahead and have your pick. I personally would go for Chesney Hawkes, "I am The One and Only."
4. Tim Hawkins - Inappropriate Wedding Songs
Be it a good or a bad wedding, a wedding is always in need of a good Polka. Now you have Polkas and this next Polka. This is THE next level Polka, my all-time favorite Polka. The polka that would make the dance floor go crazy at the drunken end of a crazy Saturday night.
5. Weird Al Yankovic - Angry White Boy Polka
That brings back memories. So does this next one, it brings back a whole poo load of memories. Denis Leary is that weirdo walking around screaming and ranting in between videos on ancient MTV.
Denis was the creator of the first stand-up comedy show I ever heard, and probably still one of the best.....or did I see Raw first? Anyway, I saw No cure for cancer and I loved it so much that I still know 50% of the text, and that at my age and my lifestyle.
6. Denis Leary - Asshole (Official Uncensored Version)
Guess that corona does not compare to cancer, but still they are both sick topics that inspire a lot of bad and dad jokes. I mean that whole lock-down did trigger and opened up a whole new can of inspiration. So let's dig in and do a little session of songs that you get by locking people in their houses.
7. Coronavirus Rhapsody (Bohemian Rhapsody parody) - Lockdown Music Video
If you think that is bad, have a listen to this next medley and try not to smile or cry. In any case, it shows that it should be forbidden to lock people down. I mean this makes the cure look worse than the disease, doesn´t it?
8. If Disney Songs Were About Quarantine
But the worst that was created during the lockdown was content. Everyone was creating content....even this guy....he created a whole lockdown show while being "Inside".
9. "Content" - Bo Burnham
We Want NO More
Indeed enough is enough and to get your heads out of this Covid gutter I will leave you again with a bang.....
A bang from METALLICAAAA! Or well Metallica´s funny little brother.
10. Metallica parody -2003- Jim Bruer
YouTube Playlist
Of course, all songs are once again captured in the YouTube playlist.

What the fluff are midnight gems?
Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.
My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.
Who the fluff am I?
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years....Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
Hope you enjoyed this slightly confronting wave of amazing music and you still feel like joining me on the next special edition trip as vol.78 of Midnight Gems is coming soon.

Whatever happened to Dennis Leary? You never hear about him now.
He worked hard on becoming a real actor and I guess by now he is.
Dude, these were fantastic!
Numbers 1, 2, 6, 7 & 10 were my favorites 😂😂😂
!CTP
I really had so much fun making this one I am glad that´s coming across !CTP
Thanks for some great music suggestions. I havent heard Tenpole Tudor for a while!
ListNerds brought me here. :-)
Neither did I until someone said Wunderbar in a comment and well that is clearly all it takes to get me started !CTP
😅🤣
Those are some great picks! I love the Axis of Awesome sketch. They do a really great job. Weird Al is coming to a town near me in a little bit. I am probably skipping that one though. I have never appreciated him the way some others do. Have you ever heard of Steel Panther? Talk about some raunchy/funny hair metal!
Steel Panther absolutely although I totally forgot about those, but I used to DJ in a rock, metal, alternative, alternative dance club and the guys in the crew were all pretty metal and Steel Panther would be played during the after-hour drinks. !CTP
That is awesome. I haven't listened to them too much. I need to kind of be in a certain mood if that makes sense. Lords of Acid were pretty funny too. Very adult, but funny.
Thanks for the collection of music. Great job putting it together.
