Hi guys, we are talking about connection here! Let me scream it out more, connection is more than a word on paper. In fact, it is life, I mean connection is life itself. It is true that no single tree can make a forest. Even the animals get intertwined with one another to get their food chain. No lone wolf can easily get that which connection does. Connection paves way, makes journey faster and easier. Connection is sweet, it brings goodies to one's doorstep without stress. We all know it is somehow difficult to get to the top without ladder, or steps. Those ladders and steps are the connections. They guide us lest we fall and it supports us to our destination.
As a person, the term connection made more sense to me last week. I am a contractor that deals with the supply of building materials such as sand, stonedust and granite and over the years, I only get customers by roaming around the streets, looking for construction site and approaching the engineers there. While this sometimes work, there are times I would go home with nothing. There are times I wouldn't see anyone in site after walking all day. This has been my norm, and daily routine. I cover so many miles trekking and looking for clients that would give me contract.
Things however became difficult when I relocated to another larger city. Trekking and scouting became so difficult due to the largeness of the city. Even if I decided to board a bus to the new sites (areas) where constructions are on-going, it's either the engineers say they have their own suppliers or other excuses, it wasn't new to me, because I know it's always like that in new environment, where you don't have people to connect you. They would have people they have been working with and it's just so difficult for me to penetrate.
So, just last week, I decided to give it another trial. I visited an area and trekked till my legs became so dusty and I eventually met a man. I approached him and told him, my kind of job. Surprisingly, he just laughed and told me I didn't need all the roaming around that I was doing that I only needed 'connection '. He said he saw me the way I have been moving around and he would try all he could do to connect me. It was like a dream, he gave some contacts and even called some people in my presence that he has a younger sister that is into supplying of materials. Like a magic, one of them just asked me to come and meet him straight away at one university college hospital . He asked me for me quotation and asked me to supply him some trucks of sand that week. Oh! The kind of work I have not had in my many days of scouting for sites this year, connection did that in just a minute.
Then, who says we don't need connection? No matter how diligent we are, there are higher places and it's only connection that can take one there. Diligence is good but one can be hardworking and still be in the mud. Even Joseph in the Bible was taken out of the prison with the connection he had with the King's servant in the prison. Through that connection, he was brought out of the prison and became a prime minister. Do we want to talk about David in the Bible? Someone recommended him to king Saul as a good harp player.
Even as a minimalist, I desire simplicity with comfort. Having enough to spend and use as and when due, and this is more possible when we are connected in our places of work and other areas. Connection is powerful; it is a ladder to success. However, connection does not literally mean direct access to the top but having a bond with someone that could hitherto recommend you to the top. Joseph in the Bible did not directly have access to king Pharoah, he had access to the servant (the King's baker). Neither David initially had direct link with king Saul until someone recommended him.
This is more reason we should not overlook or belittle anyone, because no one is too small to connect us to our greatness. It was still a maid in the Holy Bible hat suggested that her master, Naaman, the Syria warlord visit prophet Elisha in Samaria to be healed of his leprosy. A maid connected her master and he got healed.
I remember while seeking admission into university, having scored the required score, you still have to submit your credentials to well-meaning people in the university like lecturers to help in admission processing, In case they have slots. We later realized those lecturers don't even do anything because they feel to big to beg anybody in charge of the admission. But you see, those cleaners, clerks do better. They beg on one's behalf, follow up on the admission processing to ensure one's name come out on the admission list, having all requirements. This happen because those ones we see performing menial jobs are mostly humble, and can go any length to beg on our behalf and recommend us.
Thanks so much for reading.
All photos are mine.As I conclude, I remember a friend I met in 2019 in the East side of the country when I went for my one-year mandatory service after graduating from the university. @kingsleyy He is the one that still introduced me and connected me and my husband to this great hive platform in 2024. Connection is indeed a blessing.
Your story beautifully highlights the power of connections and how they can transform lives. Thanks for sharing this inspiring lesson!
Thanks so much @madilyn02
Connection can not be overemphasized. Just one shot of it, is big enough to turn things around, I mean a good one just as you experienced with the engineer that linked you to his friends.
Did she mention me? Awwnnn!
It's so good to see that you're still pushing and not giving up.
Weldone
Yesoo! No giving up, we're together @kingsleyy
I found myself smiling where you said one can work hard and still be found in the mud. That’s true. I’m glad you got the job that day especially after scouting sites all that time.
Thanks so much @samolaj
