Why do we want to leave our home? / #Kiss Week 52

If there is something that has characterized humans throughout time, it is his curiosity to seek answers to some aspects that surround him. Such is the case of natural phenomena, the functioning of his anatomy and his thinking, as well as trying to establish with certainty his origins and his future as a race. Is it the reason why humans, since the beginning of time, have always looked to the sky?

Initially, primitive man was more in touch with nature, but this did not prevent him from trying to explain his world through a cosmo-magical vision since the heavens were used by these societies to establish cycles for sowing and harvesting, to draw maps for navigation, to demarcate the seasons, among others.

Human curiosity has always wanted to go beyond its territories. It seems to be intrinsic in our DNA to occupy new spaces. There is a spirit of conquest! The best example in Western history was the expansion of the Roman Empire. However, we all know the reasons for its fall. The immediate consequence of focusing on several things at once is chaos.

In modern times it seems that man has considered extending his territories beyond our planet. For more than half a century, human has looked to outer space with motivations that have changed over time.

In the early days of the space race, exploration of the outer reaches of our planet was motivated by demonstrating technological and weapons power. It is no secret that that time the main premise was to demonstrate U.S. supremacy over the Soviet Union or vice versa.

At the end of the 20th century, the motivation to explore space was to obtain raw materials to further develop the field of electronics and robotics. Humans discovered that there are rare metals outside the Earth with great technological value. He also discovered that there are areas of our solar system where diamonds are naturally formed and abundantly . Why not get hold of them?

Today, however, the motivation to explore space has once again taken a turn. Today, they are trying to sell us that it is the only way for the human race to survive for future generations. Human has realized that he has devastated half of the natural resources and has proven that they are not renewable. Is it easier to invest efforts in taking the human race off planet Earth than to attack the problem of pollution and depredation?

There are still many things to solve as a race, until this does not happen, wherever we extend or conquer, we will transfer those unresolved problems. If we take this to a personal level, it is the equivalent of that person that even if he changes jobs, housing, or partners, if he does not explore himself to discover his weaknesses and solve them, wherever he goes he will develop chaos.

Are we still in time to solve the problems that threaten our survival on this planet? Although we are already living the devastating effects of climate change, the pandemic era (COVID-19) showed that during the confinement of human, the air was freer of pollution, sound and light pollution allowed some species of animals to recover their spaces. Vegetation grew more freely.

It was an exceptional situation that limited man's consumption of fuel, electricity, and purchases of electrical appliances, clothing, and many superfluous things. The limited distribution of food forced humans to buy local food and consume it as much as possible without producing so much waste.

Can we apply some of the lessons learned from the pandemic to reduce consumption and take care of our planet? Or should we concentrate our efforts to conquer space? The most obvious answer is to join collective efforts to heal our planet because, after all, it will be decades before humans can settle outside Earth. In the meantime, what will happen to those living here and now if we do not take action?
