"Man is a social animal and exists as a collective" & "too much of everything is bad" are two statements that many are familiar with.
Well two truths can coexist.
I believe that one needs people in life because no one can be totally independent but I equally feel that the lesser the friends, the better.
I feel that people don't need to let a lot of person's in on their personal life. Even if you must, one person or at most two is enough. They must be trusted individuals not just anybody.
Anything more than two people would increase the chances of negative outcomes from such shared secret.
Personally, I don't have a lot of friends, although I have a good number of acquaintances that I can run to if need be and vice versa.
The idea of limiting closeness with multiple people doesn't water down the role of friends and support systems.
I keep just the number of friends necessary, not more and not less.
This minimalistic approach has some advantages as I have noticed.
Time Management
Not having a lot of people bugging your phone with calls and messages helps to limit distractions and therefore increases productivity.
I noticed that I accomplish more daily unlike my former roommate who is best described as "the life of the party" or "everybody's man". This is because he had a lot of friends who either called or messaged quite frequently for my liking.
It's not just about calls. I could stay in doors a whole day and no one will disturb me but this roommate can't stay a few hours without anyone coming to disturb him.
He has to leave the room anytime he has to do a work that requires focus. He would go to a secluded and quiet environment to avoid the intrusion by his friends.
Having my time and space available for me to use as I deem fit was enough inspiration to get me started while becoming more productive is a very welcome development to me.
One thing that is very important is being able to create rapport with people. That way, one can easily solve problems without necessarily knowing the person in charge or being friends with them.
Good communication skills cannot be overemphasized in day to day living.

I'm here, I have very few friends and they can't chop my time. They know when I'm busy with my phone and they know it's not a joke in my phone but money, so they limit their chats or distraction
