FINDING CALM IN EVERYDAY SIMPLICITY

in The MINIMALIST2 months ago

Amidst the busyness of life, it is easy to get caught up in the rush and forget to slow down. Personally, I try to keep a balanced life by taking time to relax from all the hectic activities of the day—school activities, work activities, and others. I believe it is only healthy for us to catch our breath doing what we enjoy.

As an introvert, I often find it amusing how some people unwind after a busy day with bubbly activities like going to parties, socializing at events, and things that involve energy. For me, recharging means embracing calm and relaxation.

In my slow-living moments, what makes life beautiful are the simple things that require little energy. I personally love to relax alone; I enjoy the solitude and calmness that comes with it. However, I also enjoy the company of others when it feels right.

An aspect of true and healthy relaxation is being able to get away from unnecessary noise and stress, as well as cutting my screen time. Most of my daily activities somewhat revolve around digital screens, which can be stressful for my eyes. Of course, to be honest, I do enjoy scrolling through social media, but I wouldn’t consider it a preferable choice for relaxation.

One of my main hobbies for calm relaxation is Music. There is nothing as soothing to the mind and body as calming music. Even when I engage in other activities like reflecting and journalling, I enjoy the company of some good music. My current playlist features songs by Passenger and Alessia Cara, along with soothing piano tunes that set the perfect mood.

Taking a long bath is incredibly therapeutic; it calms me down and offers a moment of serenity. Having some self-care time with good music is something I look forward to every day. I also take pleasure in organising and cleaning my space; it is enjoyable and leaves me feeling accomplished. The only part I don’t particularly enjoy is sweeping the floor. Ha.

Reading books and novels is another relaxing hobby that gives me joy. For me, I am not just reading a couple of written words; It is satisfying to get lost in different worlds and imaginations, escaping the bustle and hustle around me. I love to enjoy my books with snacks, drinks, or a cup of coffee in a serene environment.

Hardcover books have been my favourite; not only are they enjoyable, but they also help me stay off my screen. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find hardcover books lately because the thrift bookstore I usually go to has moved, and I haven’t found another one that pleases me.

This has influenced me to get into e-books, which I have been using for a while now. To be honest, I don’t find them as comforting as hardcovers. I have quite sensitive eyes and love taking breaks from screens, but I love reading too much to quit. So, I got some blue light glasses to help ease the strain.

Apart from reading, I also enjoy watching fun and comedy anime; this is a significant stress reliever for me. The humour and lightheartedness lighten my mood a lot. Although I mostly watch them when I haven’t strained my eyes all day.

I am part of those people who loves the kitchen. While many might find cooking stressful, I find it so fun—especially personal cooking. Trying new recipes and sharing them with people around me is a joy. Cooking is more than just making food to eat; homemade meals are a kind of self-care that I can’t quite explain.

Crocheting is another calm way for me to reduce my screen time. The soothing rhythm of the process allows me to find peace in creativity, helping me slow down to create a piece of art. I enjoy it even more with some music or while reading books.

When I’m home from university, I love to spend quality time with my family and loved ones, as well as our family dogs. Those moments are precious and add a beautiful touch to my day. They often lead to feelings of gratitude, reminding me how fortunate I am to experience such joy.

These activities and hobbies are a reminder that we don’t need grand or extravagant moments to find peace; often the true beauty of life lies in the simple flow of everyday simplicity. Most importantly, it is the small and mindful practices that enhance our lives, reminding us to slow down and savour every moments.

I love cooking too! (and pretty much all of the other things you mentioned, but lately I've really been appreciating the soothing powers of preparing a meal). It sounds like you've got a good balance on life (it's easy to lose your head in the hecticness of daily life, no?). Good on you and thanks for sharing!

Oh that is great 😊

Well, I try to.

Thank you.

Your writing is so calm and pleasant. I really relate to you. Although I avoid labeling introverts or extroverts, I also have a way of recharging that tends to require calm. Have a nice day

We have a lot of hobbies in common, except crocheting, haha. But without a doubt, I love listening to music, reading and taking cold baths to relax my mind.
